I don't think that is limited to dark models

it's not
pre 2002 had single rotors
my 2003 620 had dual

MrFry's News Ticker:

Yeah, I noticed the single rotor.  >:(

A few people had mentioned over the weekend that the M400's aren't that great. You need to really rev them to get them going at a decent pace, and even then, they're not very fast.

I put it down to jealousy because they had Japanese bikes. Haha

Or am I in denial and just not wanting to hear that?

I have never ridden anything of this displacement before, let alone a Monster.

So how fast ARE they?

E.G, what, roughly, could a standard one do on a 1/4 mile? Or a standing start to 60MPH?

Howie

The 400 has 33HP @ 10.5K RPM and 33Nm torque @ 7.5K RPM.
The 600 has 51HP @ 8K RPM and 51Nm torque @ 6K RPM.

So, yes, as compared to it's bigger siblings, the bike would need to be reved much higher to make power and make less.  Since the bike is otherwise the same as a 600 you can expect the need to operate at higher revs to move and have both less top speed and acceleration than a 600.  The 400 was built to be sold in countries with a tiered license system.  Too slow for you?  Depends on your riding conditions.

I found a write up from NZ for you:

As far as the single disc goes, just think of it as Ducati saving you some unsprung weight.  600s had single discs, as did 750s through '01 and some 620s.

plus we all know the dual 300mm discs on a sub 400 lb bike are overkill ... which we all love too.

I wouldn't worry about the single disc on the front. My single disc on my 600 stops on a dime.
