OK, so I finally got my new monster (pics of bike and lid to follow), and I love, great feel, great power, feels a bit rough at lower RPM's but I am likely going to get the new front sprocket at the first service, so that will hopefully help that.

Only problem is that the rear brake makes a lot of squeaking/squealing noise when breaking. It is not every single time. but it happens more often then I am compfortable hearing.

Any thoughts, comments?

Thanks!

its normal.  my last 696 did it, so did others I test rode.  you might be able to get new pad to alleviate the problem...but its not hurting anything.  just learn to ignore it or embrace it.

Mine squealed too. It just about drove me crazy so I stopped using the back brake as much. It seems to have gone away after about 2k miles. But that is when I got my termis, so maybe I just don't hear it anymore.

i test drove a 696 and mine did it too... did some research and saw it's widely documented "issue".. Opted for the 1100S instead and never looked back...

Ducati has fixed the problem on the 1100s.  Instead of worrying about trying to fix the noise, just go for the cheap and easy fix...buy an 1100s  :P

i'm not certain but i would suspect the 1100 and the 696 have different rear brakes.

as far as the 696, mine squeeks when cold. but after using it also in conjuntion with the fronts or by itself to adjust precornering speeds, no squeeks.
but cold... loud... but my new exhausts are louder, so wearing ear plugs... not concerned anymore.

My M750 squealed like no other.  1st time a bleed fixed it, 2nd time it happened the pads were in worn, so new pads + a bleed helped considerably.  They still make a little noise on occasion ~

I was just told by my dealer that Ducati was going to replace my rear brake pads under warranty to get rid of the squeal.

Rear brake squeal seems to be pretty standard on M696......  mine did it too, so I punished it by using it more often and harder and now it's as quiet as a mouse.

Show it who's boss  ;D.

I have heard of this before, a few times, and mine just started today (520 miles). Im going to use it a lot more and do what ungeheuer did. hopefully that works.

side note: i love how when the 696 came out it got flack. Now, instead of it getting flack, i hear "i just got an 1100"

i'm gonna start a 696 forum
