If you read the last page, someone gives a pretty concise wrap-up on why this guy goes off like that.

The way I read it, he's not taking himself seriously at all. He's lampooning those people who take themselves and their forum personas too seriously, in this instance those who put their NESBA numbers in their sig line and might get butt-hurt about being asked why.
