I learned to snowboard in June of 2008.  There's this place in Seoul, South Korea called Tiger World that has an indoor ski/snowboard run.  I also went to a mountain in Korea but the snow was artificial.  I would love to snowboard through some actual powder.

He Man,

i'm a big fan of NeverSummer boards.  Whatever you end up buying, be sure to demo a rocker camber before buying anything.  Not that I have the cash, but I would love to upgrade all my boards to rocker camber boards.  They are the bomb!

ive been looking at a burton Hero. its a v rocker. suppose to be a good all mountain board with really forgiing edges and its on sale at $225! cant even find a better deal on a used ebay one.

So while I'm sure most of your can't wait for spring to get here any faster, I'm hoping we'll get a few more good storms here in Ca.  The weather has been amazing, but I'm not quite ready for spring yet.

I just wanted to throw up this video edit of myself and all my friends.  We all ride for the same shop and we did this for the shop site/blog thing.  My stuff starts at about 6:48 into the video and ends around 7:28.  Everyone one in it is either a roommate or a close friend.  We are gonna have some more as time goes one too.

He Man-If you ever have any questions about gear feel free to ask.  While I do ride for some companies I have the chance to test dozens of boards a year.  I don't think the boards I ride are remotely what you are looking for and I can be rather objective about other companies stuff.

ellingly

I've been boarding since 05 and it rocks. Pity the snow in Aus doesn't, and I don't get enough time away from work to get overseas. daaaaaamnit.

But I'll be hitting the slopes again this year - I do only live a 2 hour drive away from our ski fields :D.

Sierra Snow is the best!  Just bought a Sierra Crew (Sierra's clone of a Burton Custom; even made by Burton) and a pair of Flow Quattro bindings myself!

Isn't rocker camber more suited for park riding?

I think the Hero is more of a park board.  I would look for something all-mountain that you can progress and then find what riding style you like the most.  I started this my first season with a used Burton Cruzer from eBay.  I'm hooked for life!!

My understanding is it's good for park and powder since the nose of the board rides higher.  I typically ride a 164 NeverSummer Titan, but have found the board a bit short in deep powder and not as nimble in the trees.  The rocker-camber 165 I demoed floated through crud pretty well and was faster turning than my 164.  I think the only place you give up on a rocker-camber is high speed cruising stability since the effective length of the board is shorter when not on edge...your thoughts?

91 for me first board was a HOT sorrels for snowboard boots ha ha high school.
now ride A GNU and a HEELSIDE with FLOW boots and Bindings. Watching the evolution of that technology was fun, and expensive.

took the last five years off got back into it this year with new boots and bindings.
Favorite convo i read on this board
"PICS OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN"
"F**K U IT HAPPENED"

Suzuki Blvd M109R " Sliver " = assassinated by cager
PW 696 " Pearl " = traded in
M1100 " Loki " = Viking God of mischief ( Goddess in this case )
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty pristine body, but rather to come in sliding sideways all used up screaming F*CK YEAH WHAT A RDIE!!

Rocker/reverse camber boards are generally made specifically for powder riding.  They float a million times better due to their shape.  Now that doesn't mean they can't be used as all mountain boards.  I know plenty of people that ride all over on reverse camber boards.

There are many version/shapes of reverse camber and each companies rides a bit different.  Generally at high speeds on groomers reverse camber shapes can be a bit "twitchy."  Now for some (beginners/intermediates) it might be hard to get used to that.  You have to ride the boards different than you would a regular chamber.  Now I even know some very experienced riders that don't like the way reverse chamber boards ride at high speed on groomers.  It's all about getting equipment that works for your needs.

As far as park is concerned people are generally split.  People that jib a lot tend to like reverse chamber boards as they are easier to press.  Jumpers and pipe riders in my area are split.  I can tell you from personal experience the last thing you want to worry about is a twitchy board when you are heading into a 80+ foot jump.  I never really had a problem adapting to the new shape and I generally enjoy the "surfy" feel they have.

A newer variation of all the chamber business would be "hybrid" chambers.  That's what I am on now and I love it.  Super stable at high speed and has great float in the deep stuff.  The board I am on has reverse chamber in between my feet and regular chamber on the nose and tail.  As of now I know Lib Tech and Never Summer are making these, I'm sure other are too.  It's the best of both worlds in my mind.

Just a note on Burton.  With the exception of their very high end stuff all their boards are made in china.  Some are still made in europe I believe, but I'm not sure where.  Many other huge companies are also having boards pressed in china and it really doesn't mean the board isn't good.  More likely to break under pressure, sure.  A bad purchase, not at all.  In fact many board companies use Elan in europe to manufacture their boards.  There aren't many manufactures out there really.

Thanks to all that liked the video.
