Upside down is, IMO, not such a good idea - yes, ergonomically it lowers your elbows, but the sweep back angle is not there. The result is that you'd still have to bend your wrists, only now from an awkward position.

Stock bars are good for an upright, city, controlled/ready position with raised elbows, which will put some/a lot of strain on the shoulder and neck area.

Loose elbows are what counts when we're talking active/spirited riding. To ride with loose elbows most people need a further sweep back angle of the bars. = clip ons or Suburban Machinery type bars.

On the other hand, if look is your only criteria -try flipping them and see if you like it waytogo

I can't say much about clip-ons, but check these out - Suburban Machinery bars.  http://www.suburban-machinery.com/ducati2.html

While I can't give a review yet as they are in route to my door, they look promising.  I haven't heard much about them lately, but if you do a search there are some older threads talking about them.  They seem to put you forward an inch or two and provide a slightly more neutral hand/wrist position.

If you decide to go with clip-ons, I just took a set off my M750.  If the fork diameter is the same, they'll go real cheap so PM if you decide to go with clip ons.  I will say, the riding position was pretty aggressive with clip-ons, more forward lean than my 900SS.  Mine mounted under the triple.
