Upside down is, IMO, not such a good idea - yes, ergonomically it lowers your elbows, but the sweep back angle is not there. The result is that you'd still have to bend your wrists, only now from an awkward position.
Stock bars are good for an upright, city, controlled/ready position with raised elbows, which will put some/a lot of strain on the shoulder and neck area.
Loose elbows are what counts when we're talking active/spirited riding. To ride with loose elbows most people need a further sweep back angle of the bars. = clip ons or Suburban Machinery type bars.
On the other hand, if look is your only criteria -try flipping them and see if you like it
