once your metal tank is lined with this and then it begins to peel

how do you repair it?

I'm no expert, but from what I've ready, you have to break off the peeling parts by rolling rocks or something around in the tank and then seal it again. If you just go straight ahead with sealing it again w/o trying to remove the old liner there's a chance of it peeling where the old liner peeled.

There's probably a better way to get rid of the old stuff than rolling rocks around in your tank though. I just don't know it. I only did a little bit of research.

i would guess that there is a product to pour in and it will eat it off?

Por-15 makes a product to remove coatings called POR-Strip which they sell alone and as part of a gas tank kit.  In the kit its functions is to remove other sealers.  I just did a previously sealed tank with POR 15 and used MEK.  Nasty stuff but it worked.  I had to let it soak overnight to remove the thickest parts of the old coating.

If the edges are sound, and there are no other signs of peeling I'd treat that area like it had never been coated and re-do it.

Paint thinner won't touch it, and I'd be surprised if the POR strip will touch it.

I bet Aircraft stripper would take it off, but it would take some doing to get it in t all areas of the tank, and if it doesn't wrinkle up and lift off by itself it would be tough to get in there and scrape it.

Best tip:  Call the company who made it.

The POR strip won't do a thing.  I had a tank that needed welding after it was coated and was worried about the burned area.  The stripper didn't touch it so I cleaned it with their stuff and re-coated and have no problems with it.
