Actually, thanks to many of you DMFers and others, the support has been beyond fantastic! 

Stella and I stopped by to see Joe the other night at his new digs.  He still has a ways to go until he can be transferred to a rehab hospital, but he is doing quite well!

This deserves a bump up.

And an update:  Joe was upright for the first time yesterday working with PT's.  Briefly but still upright.  Interestingly, he laughs a lot.  He always did before the accident because it was his nature but his care providers say even when they're doing things that  cause discomfort, he's smiling away or laughing. 

Yesterday they also started giving him ice chips to test his swallowing ability. It went ok until he started to laugh.  Then he started gagging (not necessarily a bad thing).

Once he can manage swallowing (and who knows what else), he can be taken off the trach tube.  Then he'll go to rehab hospital down the road. 

It is amazing how much he's progressed in a week since coming back home.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.
