Will this work for my 09 696?  I use the OEM Ducati Filter.  I've tried hand tightening but oil is still leaking.

Go to local harbor freight, kragens, napa auto parts and get a generic oil filter wrench... The kind that have a strap and are adjustable...

Secondly, if you hand tightened it on, and it's still leaking, there might be another issue.... Make sure that the filter is not cross threaded and that the gasket around the top of the filter is still good... I am pretty sure it should not leak when hand tightened...

How much of a leak are we talking?  A single drop after you park it or constant dribble when running?

+1
I don't own a Ducati...but I wrench on one.

$10 for a tool that actually fits the filter and allows you to use a torque wrench to tighten it to spec verses a generic strap wrench?  Why not buy the proper tool?  12 ft lbs is a little tighter than hand tight for most of us.

wannabfast

you need to tightened it way tight, i had this happen my first time i changed the oil, it kept leaking a little, so i spun it another 1/8 turn, but you need to get it really tight

the k&n filters have a hex nut spot welded to the end that lets you use a normal wrench to tighten it

A few drips when I'm warming up the bike.

The filter is recessed and there is not much clearance between the filter and the hole that it's recessed in.  I don't think the generic adjustable filter wrench will fit in that gap.

So anyone have this filter wrench that I originally posted?  What do you guys use?

I have some generic cap wrench (probably from Autozone or someplace like that) which just happened to fit.

Why don't you grab your spare filter and head down to the nearest Napa/Zone etc?

Thats what I'm going to try.  The thing is, on the older 696, the filter is recessed into the engine case.  So you need a low profile wrench to fit between the filter and engine case gap.  I saw on the other post you have a 2011 696.  Your filter sticks out and can accommodate any adjustable filter wrenches.

I'm not using an adjustable, just one of the single-size cap wrenches I happened to have in my box - but I know what you're talking about - again my Guzzi with the recessed filter doesn't leave much clearance - nor did my Oilhead BMW...

Worked with every bike I've ever had. If you use a reusable oil filter then this isnt for you.
