Your logic sucks and is boring as usual.  If I walk into my grocery and I pay with cash I pay the same price as I would with a CC.  I am paying nothing extra for the use of the card.  Yes, if everyone paid off their card every month they would have to change their model.  They would not be making a sufficient profit to cover their expenses.  That is the point.  They are dependent on users running up bills they cannot pay and worse, individuals that lack the discipline or cerebral content to manage their debt.

It's well established that vendors raise their prices to cover the cost of card users.  Card users have made retail more expensive for everyone because of the 2-4% surcharge.  This is why many vendors offer a small rebate at purchase if you pay cash.

Yes, if everyone paid off their card every month they would have to change their model.

Going out of business is not the same as changing a business model.

Retailers have simply passed the cost of card users to everyone (or offer rebates for cash purchases). 

I also mentioned AmEx -- you have to pay in full EVERY MONTH and somehow, they make a shitload of profits. So much that companies have begun to license their charge cards.

Plus, they would just change their model so all cards would have an annual fee.  My Amex (biz platinum) has an annual fee of $450.  It's worth it to me given how I use the card almost weekly at Ikea purchasing future Ducatiz family heirlooms.  None of the regular cards I have charge an annual fee, but I can remember when it was common for a Bank Americard or Master Charge to have a $30-50/year fee.

That's the worst thing to do, so don't do it.  I don't know how old your kid is, but unless she is abusive, that's a toll that the child pays too.  Take it from me, I was that kid and it made me miserable most of my life to know my mom was keeping my dad from me, only to learn years later he died in Viet Nam.

Congrats!!  Being debt free is a great feeling.

and tie the number of work hours offered or outright tie card signups to if you work there or not to some poor schmoes employment.  Being badgered with "do you have our "xxxxxxxxxxx" card?" "Do you want one?"  "Here let me fill the paperwork out for you."  "I'll give you a reacharound if you sign up for our "xxxxxx" card!!!"   is very annoying.  Those retailers get the Amex.  Those that don't try to peddle their plastic get the debit card or cash.

The way the divorce worked out, we have joint custody with her being the primary care provider.  The threat was only there so she wouldn't touch my finances.  Now that everything is just about wrapped up, I have no intentions of being anything but civil with her, simply for my son's sake, but we'll never be bosom friends.

My parents had a nasty divorce, and I have no desire to follow in their footsteps.  I saw what it did (and continues to do) to my brother and I, and won't let that happen to my son if it can be avoided.  That being said, I only have control over my own actions... how she goes about this in the future is up to her.

I do know that at some point in the future, my son will most likely become curious and will ask what happened between his mother and myself.  While I won't bash her, if he's reached an age where I think he can handle it, I will tell my son the truth.  However harsh the truth may be, I won't lie to him.

and keep this concept in mind....facts do NOT always add up to "the truth"

truth was..... the relationship wasn't working and one of the parties in the relationship elected to "act-out"

........"the truth" is like fire....it can cook your food, provide light and warm you....

but it can also burn down your house, scorch your crops to the earth and leave you in darkness

@ RAT900... this is all rhetorical at this point.  My son's only three, so there are quite a few years between where I am sitting now and the day that I might need to have this talk with him.  Who knows what will happen ten or fifteen years down the road.

CC debt free since 1999 here!  It is the only way to go.  I use them, but pay them off every month.
