The Ex finally paid me the money she owed me, so today I paid off the credit card.  The lawyer is paid off, and by the time I get back to the states I should have both the Monster and my car paid off as well (then I'll be completely debt free).

I guess there's a silver lining to every mushroom cloud. [roll]

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

That's good news.

Just hang tight and come back safe.

Nice.  Now don't start spending it in stuff you can't pay for.

I have zero debt.  But then I don't own anything of value.  Bikes paid for from day 1.  ( I don't believe in financing a hobby).

Wish I bought a place, but in this shitty economy got to hold on every cash possible I guess.

Give it two weeks.  The banks are so desparate to unload all the foreclosures they've had handed back to them, they've started to demolish perfectly good homes.  You'll be able to pick up decent properties for the cost of a Diavel in no time.

///only half-kidding.

Me, I should be CC debt-free by tax time next year.  Thank you, Mr. Dave Ramsey.  Please run for President.

Mine's smarter than that... due to her cheating and everything else that she did, I was holding all of the cards in our divorce.  I very plainly told her that if she make the beast with two backsed with my finances, I'd make sure that she never saw our son again.  Then I made sure to get everything that she owed me in writing in the divorce paperwork.  That way if she didn't want to pay, she could go sit in jail for a while.

I may have lousy judgement when it comes to women, but I still know how to cover my own ass in a legal situation.  I just wish that I never had to see/speak to her again.

CC debt free since 1999 here!  It is the only way to go.  I use them, but pay them off every month.

That's the worst thing to do, so don't do it.  I don't know how old your kid is, but unless she is abusive, that's a toll that the child pays too.  Take it from me, I was that kid and it made me miserable most of my life to know my mom was keeping my dad from me, only to learn years later he died in Viet Nam.

+1

My rule: If you can't pay one off in two months or less, you probably couldn't afford the purchase to begin with.

Paying off your CC every month is how you beat the debt business at its game.  You cost them money each month.  Of course, if we all did it they would go out of business.

No they wouldn't.  They charge vendors 2-4% per purchase.  You buy $100 of crap, the vendor ponies up $2-4 for the privilege of having you as a customer.

Plus, they would just change their model so all cards would have an annual fee.  My Amex (biz platinum) has an annual fee of $450.  It's worth it to me given how I use the card.  None of the regular cards I have charge an annual fee, but I can remember when it was common for a Bank Americard or Master Charge to have a $30-50/year fee.
