Well guys had a good look at the monster 797 and it will make a lovely blank canvas for the modders that frequent this forum.
When you view it along side the 821 it's a lot smaller in both width, length and the bulk of the of the 821 water cooled motor compared to the air cooled motor of the new797 yes to me it's almost back to the original.
I think that the red framed, red wheeled with the white tank would make a wonderful platform to create a tricolore coloured bike without the big dollar cost.
On Sunday I'll be at the Manchester motorcycle show and will have another look at it and try to take some pics.

There are definitely things I like more about the 797. But it wasn't an option when I was last in the market.

I know we're you're coming from in that I got my scrambler last year and it's so close to the 797 that I wonder weather or not to pull the pin.
I do like the 821 it's just that as I get older the lighter and smaller the bike the better and that's the reason for the scrambler but there'll always be a place in my heart for a monster.

The power is nice, albeit higher up in the range than I prefer. But yeah, it's heavier. I think the thing I like most about it is the range I get from the 4.6 gallon tank. I able to get from home to the CA/AZ state line without stopping. I can make it almost to Vegas without stopping.

I've heard god things about the 797 from a dealer rep who road it recently. He's  a racer so no slouch of a rider.

I keep looking at the new SS and I really like it. But it's  looking more and more like an updated ST than SS. Not sure I want to replace the ST.

I can't grasp why a clutch would cause false neutrals. ???
Clutch? you mean the device used to engage 1st from a stop?

My gear engagement issues track across bikes... the problem is almost always a syndrome known as "pussy-foot." I have it sometimes...

Yeah...that thing.
