Hey, hey. Ex ultralightweight racer. Just picked up a monster620 to get back into track riding after about 10 years off. Will be just perusing the form for info on track upgrades, mainly suspension.

03ish, picked it up for $800 on market place, didn't run, now it does. Looking to just put some tires on it get the suspension sorted for a few track days a year.Maybe get some rearsets that don't attatch at the engine case? WTF?

Same issues regarding suspension, I guess. I have a fantastic Bitubo racing unit and a custom modified ST4s fork. Fantasically much better.

I don't think I've seen frame mounted rearsets. Maybe rearsets from another bike can be welded on?

I've still got an old Penske triple clicker that I'd like to make work. It's been sitting for a decade so has to be sorted out. Plus a new spring is in order as I'm a bit heavier now. Also looking to get some sliders for when I inevitably chuck it down the road...

If it goes sliding, it'll most likely be on the exhaust (specific exhaust protectors), bars (steering stops)(to protect fingers and also avoid the bars smashing a dent in the tank), engine side covers (frame sliders) and maybe front axle sliders.

FWIW: I found the bike much easier to control when I rearranged the geometry. Lower bars (clip ons), footpegs an inch rear- and up + the seat padding higher and modified to position me forward. Plus lowering the front and raising the rear.

Did you mention brakes? [evil]

Brakes I'll most likely keep stock. Had to sort them out and the clutch master to get her going, but probably fine for a few track days.
Been looking for rearsets but only seeing things around $400. Was hoping for something a bit cheaper.
Was gonna lay'r-down in the garage to see where she'll slide, mainly the exhaust and engine covers i was worried about.
What rearsets are you using? And dare I ask about your brake setup?

$400 rearsets sounds almost "affordable"? Depending on type, you'll need some that also holds the exhaust. Maybe have a look at SuperSport and ST4

My rearsets are the discontinued CycleCat. They have survived two serious attempts to kill themselves.

I've been happy with Castrol React SRF "Racing" which is clearly the best regarding high temperatures. Fully floating discs if you can afford them, the best semi floating if you can't. Pads to taste. I use the calipers you have ("996 calipers")(from where they first appeared). I have a radial master cylinder from a StreetFighter 1098, but that was the one upgrade that didn't excactly blow my mind. Your parts are probably ok as they are and even more so if they are kept in TOP condition.

Sure, hard to spend money when I got the bike so cheap. Plus I know I wont be doing more than a few days this year.
