I know we had a thread on this at TOB, but I don't feel like slogging thru all that shite to find it. Can someone please tell me how to pronounce the following names, so I don't sound like as much of a douchebag next time I stop by Cycle Gear?

Dainese
Gaerne
Shoei

Thanks...

Dine Easy ?

Don't know if I would trust a Texas pronunciation of an Italian brand...

What I know (no guarantee these are correct). Also, much like Texas, I have a think accent, but mine is of the appalachian varient ~

Dainese
Dain (like the word "pain") ese (like the work "ease")

Gaerne (no clue, but here's my best - Like Jennifer Garner's last name, just leave the "er" off the end)

Shoei (Show - e)

Those of you more in the know, feel free to correct my mountain accent [laugh]

Shoei (pronounced Sho-ay)

A lot of people say this, but Bret Milan (their head of race what have you) pronounces it show-e as does this cray japanese guy that they have a laguna doing rider prep every year.

So, I really am confused on this one.

herm

i have heard Dainese pronounced most often (including where i bought my helmet) like mayonaise (replace m with d of course)
If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

scienceiscool

this is a great thread...

since it's japanese, shoei is correctly pronounce show-ay.  but i and most americans say it show-ee.

dainese is dye-neh-seh or in american dye-nee-see.

also useful: termignoni has the gn like bologna - ter-min-yon-ee.  i was saying ter-mi-go-nee for a long time.

Rameses

In Italian, e's are always pronounced with an english long "a" sound.

Making Dainese - die NAY say - capital letters being the stressed syllable (I think this's the same way Mother pronounces it, he and I just chose different ways to spell out the phonetics.)

I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to spell out the sounds for Gaerne... the best I can do is gahAIR nay.  Again, capital letters being the stressed syllable, and the "gah" and "air" kinda slurred together.

Shoei I'm no help with.  I know how I pronounce it, but I have no idea if it's right or not.
