How hot is too hot?

I know 695's run hot, especially here in NC in the summer.  What temps do you guys regularly see?  I recently hit about 270 on the highway headed to Raleigh.   I'm not running an oil cooler, how much do they help?  The stock cans are cored though, does that make a difference?

Thanks

Too hot, according to Ducati, is 338o.  An oil cooler will significantly lower your temperature at speed, not so much in traffic. On a 695 your cored pipes will not make a difference.

I often run at 240-250F without issue.

also, the dash display will change when the temp gets too high  [thumbsup]

and +1 on the oil cooler

Thanks all.  I guess the only reason I bring it up is because there is a little blistering right where the exhaust mates up.  The tech pointed it out to me during my last service and said I was running way too hot.  I think that was his pitch to justify selling me a DP computer...which I want, but don't have the cash for now ;D

The DP ecu will also make a huge difference in running temperatures, plus you get a performance boost.

In sunny San Diego I normally get to 250-260 after about 30 mins on the freeway, so....I don't know if the type of oil you're using will make any difference as well.

wasn't there a known issue w/the 695 heads having flaky paint?

I seem to recall that

Paegelow

Not flaky, the paint melts and turns brown around the exhaust port.  Mine did, I got new heads on warranty (!!!), and I added a Termi kit with the DP ECU.  That helped but the paint melted again within a month!  [bang]
