Is this a dodgey oil filter...? You be the judge...

No worries, I just didn't want the folks getting OEM filters to freak out.

I'd like it better if the OEM ones had a seal, but my "I'd like it better" list is pretty F'n long... :-\

Just bought a filter the other day from the stealer - the screen job is not the greatest either (probably made on a Friday before the long weekend)  ;)

On the bottom of mine, there is a production # inkjetted on the bottom

Yours looks real - I wouldn't sweat it

If you are worried about it, don't buy discount filters off of Ebay.   Buy it from your dealer, probably couldn't be more than $150 difference.

thanks for all the inputs on this - I just had a family member buy me a couple of things from the local dealer back home in Australia - the oil filter that was bought looks a lot like the one i have here - just viewed on Skype - let's see what it looks like when it arrives.

By the way,  I also got some plugs - the NGK ones - which came in Ducati branded boxes - anyone else seen this? -  they are just the plain old DCPR8E's.

I don't get it, I get my filters from the dealer here for like 11 bucks. Exactly how much profit can you be making knocking them off? It's not like this is an expensive part. I'd bet Ducati changed their suppliers. Wouldn't doubt that it's a cheaper filter too, so that would explain the poorer quality. That's just my .02 though.

If, by some nonsensical chain of events, I started manufacturing counterfeit oil filters, I wouldn't bother doing Duc filters.
Wouldn't sell enough to make it worth the bother.

I agree probably not a lot of profit if that filter only fits Ducatis.  I wonder if one filter can fit a lot of applications ?cars? with just a re-spray?   A poor paint job seems to be a common theme in all of the bogus filters discovered + being able to scrape the lettering off with your fingernail.  I'd like to know if the insides of these ?new? Duc filters are a good quality.

When I get the filter from Oz, I'll take a shot and post it up - like I said, through the webcam, it looked kinda the same as the one i've got here... :o

By the way, I sent an email to my Mum - who's printed it out and taken it to the Ducati dealer back home - list of stuff  - including request for 4 plugs and the spark plug number(NGK DCPR8E), filter request and various other odds and ends - and I've specified bike model - (2006 s2r1k)

I also emailed the shop a day before - asking them if they had the plugs, to save my mum a trip if they didn't. Again, I've asked specifically for NGK plugs, of the number mentioned above.

Anyway, Mum goes in there with the list, and the guy only gives her 2 plugs - saying ducati's only need two plugs.

For make the beast with two backs's sake.

So he gives her two Ducati-box branded NGK DCPR8E plugs.

Then later that night, I get an email reply from the same guy - responding to my request for NGK  plugs - and he says -

.." Sorry but no we don't have NGK plugs for you Ducati.
Being a genuine dealer we only hold the champion plugs."

This is exactly the same guy that served my Mum when she went there.

Looks an awful lot like the last one I got from my dealer. Thought the same thing as you at the time. I wouldn't sweat it.

Sorry to side track, but how many plugs does a S2R1k take? Do you have a dual spark motor on that? Is that why you wanted 4 or spares?

The end is in sight! Gotta buckle down and get to work!

Yes, and that engine is in all the (new) large capacity aircooled bikes now. S2R1K, Multistrada (the present one, not the coming-soon one...), Hypermotard, new M1100 - so it's not as though my bike's a one-off freak or something...
