Oh hell-did he tell you about the forum? ML, you 'tard. I met my wife on here and now I can't get away with posting half the shit that comes to mind. What were you thinking?

Also, get the TV.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Yeah I told her.  I was trying to be a nice guy and help someone who had a linux question.  Since I married the linux overlord it just seemed right.  :-\

So back to the tv thing. . .

I really want to buy local, and we were at a place here in town that sells tv's and misc appliances.  Got some good info, and decided we liked the 60" LG.

I went back to talk to them about coming in with some of our own DVD's to watch under different lighting conditions to help us make a decision.

The guy looked at me like I was on crack.

"why would you want to do that?" he askes me.

I am in shock.  Turns out this is the first time in 18 years he's been asked about this.

Not only that, but he tells me I have to bring my *own* DVD player!!  They won't shut off lights during store hours and no way in hell will anyone stay late.

F those guys.

I was in complete disbelief.

So yesterday I stop at a home/car audio store that's been around a long time and I know the owner and a guy that does installs there.

Much better :)  We'll buy from them for sure.  They thought the other place was nuts like I did.  I got great info from them.

They didn't have any plasmas as LCD is they huge seller so that's what they stock.  They are going to bring in our latest front runner, a Samsung PN58A550 so we can check it out.

While I was there I watched parts of Iron man on blueray on an LED/LCD tv and I was absolutely blown away.  Even a regular DVD in the blueray player on that tv was killer (Gladiator)

Turns out it makes a huge difference in color accuracy when you get the tv calibrated.

We have an appointment to go back next saturday and compare LCD/LED-LCD and plasma and make a final decision.

Blueray FTW!!!

Getting one of those too ;)

I tried to absorb a ton of info that day so I can only give you sketchy details at this point. . .

My understanding was that somewhere on the net there was a code for each of these tv's (or brands) that you could enter and it would change all the settings for the better.

That being said, google turned up nothing.

I will ask about this again. . .
