6061 = fail, at least at my home-brew heat treat in the oven.  If I REALLY lean down on the left hand side bar, I can compress the suspension all the way down, and then I can feel the bar begin to want to bend.  I have a sneaking suspicion that "that ain't good"

I'm going to order some 4130 to build a new set, same design.  

.065" on the 7/8's and .059" on the 1.125" stuff.....ought that be good enough to work?

Given that the bicycle frames I made are a similar alloy to 4130 (Columbus Zona), and are 0.02" wall, I think 0.06" wall will be plenty good.
