The Stig is James May. There is a reason they call him Captain Slow, its a cover. Who would ever believe such a thing?
I believe you got it! [clap]

It's not James May.  They picked him out of a contest early in the 2nd season. they were looking for the worst possible host for a car show and James won.

Ahh, c'mon. James is ok. He's a nice counterpoint to the overbearing Clarkson and the fanboy Hammond.

The chemistry between the hosts is one reason I don't think any other version of Top Gear will be as good.

I don't care who the Stig is. But my guess is that he's an out of work storm trooper.

That and they won't tell it like it is. Can you imagine".....and so that is why the new Chevy Chevette is such rubbish." "And now a commercial from Chevrolet."   It just won't happen.
He man, where are all the ads?

All just hype, I think the Stig is not one person but a multitude of different people they hire based on availability and insurance requirements, like they did with Schumacher when they had that special Ferrari. Of course with Schumacher they made an exception and 'outed' him; they just couldn't pass up using him in the show.

I totally agree - from what I"ve read, the Stig is played by multiple drivers.  I imagine that Ferrari wanted Schumacher to drive the FXX so they could get a fantastic lap time and be at the top of the board.  Having Shumi "unmasked" on the show was great PR for Ferrari, too.

That and it was his FXX and he wasn't about to let anyone else drive it.

The Stig is played by multiple people depending on the segment, but the power lap times are all done by the main Stig in question looking to publish his autobiography (Ben Collins).

Daily Mail thinks Ben is outing himself as the Stig to cover his company losses. Makes me kinda wonder, what does his company do?
