Really opening her up

I have a 2004 S4R that I bought of off ebay back in early March. It had some fuel delivery issues (turned out to be a failing injector.) when I first brought her home, but I got them resolved and have really, really enjoyed the bike. It has a full Arrow exhaust, stock ecu and a stock airbox. Lots of other coolness mods too but nothing that would give it any extra oomph except a 14 tooth front sprocket. I don't race so I am talking about riding on the street not the track. Obviously I can't really crank the throttle wide open in my environment anyway, but I have to be honest and say I can't imagine doing it even if I could. Forget about it in 1st, or 2nd; I'm pretty sure the bike would flip. I have had it about 3/4 of the way open in 3rd and 4th and the acceleration is so awesome that I can't imagine what that extra 1/4 would be like. The bike at 3/4 throttle even for a few seconds is a mind boggling hang the make the beast with two backs on experience. She is a BEAST! Is it just me or does the performance/power/acceleration on these bikes seem endless?
Thoughts?

These are the early stages. Dont advance too quickly. They make faster bikes. Inevitably, you'll "get used" to the power you have now, and be able to take on some more......until eventually youre on a motoGP bike! now THAT is a hang-the-make the beast with two backs-on experience

He an SV650 guru who runs Twin Works Factory. There's some info in Charlief's SV thread --

Back on topic -- OP, you can go wide open in 1st or 2nd w/o flipping hte bike. It's not about how wide open the throttle is as much as it is how quickly you open it. avizpls is right on though. After a while, it won't feel like warp 6 when you go WFO, and you'll start cravin' a turbo busa in order to get your scare on.

I would like to do that on an S4R or S4RS. WFO on my little M750 only gets me about 110. I remember twisting on my worked Suzuki GS1150ES. THAT was scary.

Precisely why I ride a 2-valve Monster on the street and a 4-valve Ducati on the track. Too easy to get in trouble with all that power on the street. Not that a 1000cc 2-valve is slow by any means, but you know what I'm saying. I miss my 750 because I could really ride the hell out of it on back roads.

On some bikes that seems to be the case. It depends on how big your balls are too. My Kawa ZX-11 out balled me. There was no way I tapped its full potential and that was mostly because I didnt feel confident to bring it up to its 170mph top speed. I believe that every step past your comfort level increases your confidence level as well, but everyone has their limits and if you dont feel comfortable over extending those limits, then take it slow.
I struggle keeping my M750 past 100mph without getting the pucker effect. Depending on the wind and road conditions, getting my 750 past 100 can get a bit hairy. This was not the case with my previous Jap bikes. I think my monster kinda keeps me grounded. The 43T rear doesn't help either.

Lots of good experiences here
I've played with a 620 and demo'd an S4R on local roads...
But the 1K engine just seems to be perfect for carving as well as 110 on the expressway.
I love my bike

My first time out on my new (to me) bike, my riding buddy gave me a
, pointed ahead, and gave the manly fist pump...
We were on the I-40 just east of Albuquerque, in 4th @ about 80ish.
I dropped it into 3rd and whomped on it...
The bike snorted, reared, and took off. I clicked into 4th, looked down, and the three little numbers on the screen said 142!!!
Yeah, haven't done that since. Prolly won't anytime soon, either.
I'm actually a slower, safer rider now on the big Duc than I ever was on my itty-bitty M750.
The bike is definitely much better than I am...
