This is why I'd have problem buying a chain from those folks:

RK GB520XW chain for $70.  100 link, gold plates, X-ring, approved for up to 1000cc.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

why not this?

i'm pretty sure the stock oem chain is comparable to this one but i could be wrong.

i know everyone here reco's expensive ass chains (i have an xring myself) but the truth is the chain my bike originally came with wasn't exactly a high end chain.  it looked like a standard heavy duty d.i.d. chain.

just lubricate regularly and check tension and make sure it's not binding.  don't be surprised if it doesn't last as long as an x-ring but be happy its cheaper.

That chain is shite.... Just saying.  It stretches and won't hold lube.  It is looking like it might last for 1000-1500 miles on the S2R800.

I have used a DID 530 standard chain on my H-2 that was built to a 776 cc heavly moded it lasted over 6 years and was still fine  when i sold it and going 105 mph in 3rd gear was a every day event. It never needed  tighting .

Maybe the previous owner modified the bike for towing :P

And stored the tow chain on the sprockets?

but i dont like the idea of two links on one chain .
I've got two master links on my 748. This is because of a mishap that pushed a side plate in far enough to squeeze the x-rings out a little (one actually broke). I didn't trust it, so I cut that bad link out, inspected the whole chain, and then installed another rivet master link. Hasn't caused any issues for 3000+ miles and being up to 140 mph, but....I know the history of my bike and the chain. Your chain may have been pieced together from two different chains.

I wouldn't doubt if it was something like someone stretched their swingarm on their bike and wanted a gold/colored chain, so they simply cut their stock chain off and tossed it aside. The previous owner of your bike could have gotten an extremely low mileage chain for free or dirt cheap and put it on the Monster because it was $100+ cheaper than a new one. I hear of this happening fairly often with brand new bikes when the buyer's first desire is to stretch the swingarm and get a bling chain. The brand new chain gets cut off and sold for $10-$40.

Educate me on the 520 vs 525. What does the number mean/designate/etc?

Width.  You find 520, 525, 530 etc.  I even had a Suzuki GS1150ES that had a 630  :o  That thing was huge and expensive.

I have had great luck with just your basic DID or RK O-ring chains.  That is what is currently on my M750 and SS900.  The parts guy was pissed I wouldn't buy the $225 Tsubaki chain he recommended.  I've put over 10K miles on my DID that's on my M750 and it still looks good and is well within spec for stretching.

$225 for a chain?  was it made of gold?  Of course he was pissed, that %200 markup was his weekend booze.

Yea, I was thinking that was a ridiculous price.  That's why I said "I'm not paying that much for a chain, get me something cheaper."  It's a parts counter guy that my wife and I don't like, he always acts like I don't know what I'm talking about.

When I deal with folks like that, I just google the price on my phone.  It's amazing how people's tune changes when you show them the same item is 1/3rd the price somewhere else.
