From what I have read on a different thread here on the forum, there is a thicker and thinner shim that goes between the footpeg mount and the engine cases.  They could actually be called something different but I am calling them shims because they are super thin and I don't believe are used in the traditional washer sense. I believe either the thicker or thinner one goes against the case and it matters which one. When I removed the swingarm they fell away from the case before I had a chance to note which one went where.  I just want to make sure I put them in correctly.

No, there are no shims between foot peg assembly and swingarm shaft. The foot peg assembly (rubber mount's inner ring) rests on a shoulder on the swingarm shaft's ends. However, there is a thick washer between the rubber mount and the very large outside nut. That washer has nothing to do with axial play of the swingarm.
