Hi, new owner of a 2009 Ducati 696. Been riding it for a couple of months until I accidentally drained the battery.  Tried to trickle charge a couple weeks later with no luck. Purchased a new ballistic 8cell and just put that in last night. Happened to check the fuse on the trickle charger and noticed it burned out. Now I have a new fuse and a new battery.

Tried starting it and it won't turn. Seems to be making a tick tick sound and not cranking. Tried pulling in clutch, turning throttle, pushing the bike and still not cranking. Checked the battery reading and it reads 13.1v. Could it have disabled something when the battery drained for a couple of weeks?  Tthis issue is somewhat wiping out my acomplisment/satifaction From removing the gas tank and fuel in swap out battery.

Often wrong. Never in doubt.

Have you checked the main ground connection is not loose?

The bolt securing your ground is located under the black plastic cover to the left of your front (horizontal) cylinder, if it works loose then all you'll get is clicky-clicky when you hit the starter regardless of the goodness of your battery.

So I would have to remove the left plastic cover from the gas tank to see that wire? Or does the whole tank need to come off?

On a side note, but close to this, I was getting ready to go out for a ride, thumbed the starter, turn over but no start. I did some checking, checked battery voltage had dropped to 12.3V. I wheeled my baby back in the garage, put her on a charger, 30 minutes later battery had some more juice and thumbed the starter and she purred up with no hiccups! First time I have had any sort of "issue" with this bike, but it seems that the battery has to be in a very specific state of charge, I will be plugging it  in the charger when not riding from now on:)
