Hello,
I currently have a 98" M900 which runs 14t front sprocket & a 41 rear.
At 60 mph I am 4500 rpm, in 6th.
75% of my riding in in town (35-45 mph)
My question is those good numbers, gas mileage wise?

I am planning on new sprockets and chain along with the addition of raising the rear with 20mm hoop spacers early in the new year.

Anyone have opinions?

Merry Christmas!!!

For the best mileage your/any bike needs to rev at 'happy revs' - where everything is in harmony.

Most Ducatis enjoy their ride at about 5 - 6,000 revs, IME.

That's where you'll find the best mileage, unless you're super easy on the throttle - in which case it might be ok around 4,000 revs.

If bikes were designed and tuned differently, they could cruise at 2,000 revs and double their mileage.
252,000 km/seventeen years - loving it

cokey

Always wondered why you can't cruise at low rpm's

About the goat...
His name was Bob, but the family called him BeelzeBob.

I used to run 15/39 on my old 01 M900ie streetbike....don't remember what the rpm's were, but it was a seemingly happy set-up...

Your 900 carbie has the 2.0:1 primary gears, so 14/41 is pretty low gearing.
You've got the wide ratio transmission, so that makes up for it a bit.

If you're going to raise the rear with those spacers, then definitely go to a 15 tooth front to get the chain up off of the swingarm.
You'd need a 44 tooth rear to keep the same gearing as what you've got now.

For better mileage, go higher gearing, IE smaller rear sprocket.

Speeddog thanks for addressing the spacers in your response!!
One other factor (maybe a non-issue) is that my bike does have 41 FCRs
