M1100 Midpipe solution
«
on:

Well after several months of looking for a reasonable priced mid-pipe for my M1100s I decided to pull it off, remove the flapper valve and have it welded up by a local shop. I went to a shop 30 minutes or so away and got an estimate of $160. Well then I remembered a buddy of mine from our local club is a welder. I brought it by his place and he told me leave it for an hour or so. I just picked it up and his fee was "Buy me dinner on the next Dinner Ride". MFW!

awesome! did he cut off the pipe and slide another one on or did he just wrap the pipe with a piece of sheet metal?

Do you have annual roadworthy checks in QLD that include static noise testing?

No annual roadworthy up here only when selling a vehicle a safety certificate is required and I have never had any of my bikes including the Monster fail due to noise levels.

OK, obviously I did not give enough information about this! This is not a sleeve or wrap or whatever. My buddy is a GREAT welder, and he had a few scraps of stainless laying around. The top picture shows what the pipe looked like after I used a cutting wheel and carefully (as I could) cut that triangle out and then just slid the flapper right out. I brought the pipe to Ben who then as I said had a few scraps of stainless of the correct thickness laying around. He cut those out to approximate hole sizes and then tacked them into the holes. Then welded all the way around (the holes/patches), set a side to cool. Then ground the welds off and VOILA looks freakin perfect!
Like I started to say, I first brought it to a local performance fabrication/muffler shop and he wanted $160 plus 10 days to get to it. honestly at the time I really considered it considering how much the Arrow pipe costs and how rare it is to come across a 696 Mid-Pipe and how much they cost as well.

now the question is, are you running duc.ee or have you flashed the ecu to take out the servo motor? or is it still plugged in?

I have the DP ECU for full systems. I picked it up used on here last year. I am running the HMF slip-ons as well. I had previously removed the motor/solenoid deal under the seat after installing the ECU, but lived with the flapper still there just unplugged and open all the time.
I have the bike down for maintenance doing some other mods etc so thought I would tackle this too while it is a part.
