Bike won't start after sitting for a week. Not the battery.

Did it drop dead at idle or under way?

If it just dropped dead without a sputter while you were moving it's almost certainly electrical.  The relay Howie mentioned has gone south on both of my Ducs.  Intermittent fail a couple times followed by total failure.

It just cut out all at once, no sputter.  The dash lights stayed on.

Not sure where my last Reply went, sorry if this is double.

I did put fresh gas in it.  I did confirm we have spark.

I have not drained the tank, or checked the fuel pump or filter, because of the following: from what I understandt here is an o-ring that has to be replaced every time you open up the tank.  I don't live close to a dealer, so I need to hunt parts down, order them, and then wait a week and hope it's the right part.  So in short: I'm trying to avoid opening the tank if I can.  Correct me if I'm wrong on the o-ring bit, it's just what I've read.

I've heard the most probable point of failure is the relay(s) next to the battery, so I ordered 2 new ones.  Should be here Friday.  I know you shouldn't just throw parts at it, but they were like 5 bucks each so it's worth a shot.

If the relays don't fix it, the next step will be to open up the tank and check everything I guess.

I found the official shop manual for the 2004 M620 Dark, I'm assuming everything is the same as the '05, and it doesn't give a mileage for replacing the fuel filter.  It recommends cleaning the fuel tank every 20K miles, though.  Where were you able to find out about the fuel filter mileage?

You are correct, they show no filter change interval in the maintenance table, it was 6K on the carbies.  Probably because the filter is in the tank.  Spending a ten spot on relays is no biggie.  Replace them and go for a ride.  Anew O ring is not mandatory, but highly recommended.

The relays didn't help.  It turns out there is a dead wire in the fuel flange.  The pump works fine but the red wire feeding the pump seems to be broken somewhere.  I made a new topic in Tech with the details since this is, I think, now a different issue.  Check it out if you like, and thanks for your help.
