Bike won't start after sitting for a week. Not the battery.

2005 Monster 650 Dark.  6K miles. Bike ran fine last week.  I let it sit outside (covered) for a week (temperate climate, Pennsylvania) and now it won't start.  The lights come on, it turns over and the starter sounds normal, it just doesn't start.

I tried 2 different battery booster packs to make sure it's not a low battery issue.  Negative.  Also checked all the fuzes.

It does have fuel.  The fuel is 1-2 weeks old.

Where do I go from here?

check the spark plugs , make sure they are clean , also see if the wires are tight on the coils. Maybe the gas has water and its in the fuel lines already...

what i would do is: (this is what I WOULD DO )
disconnect the fuel lines from the tank and from the injectors .. blow air (mouth) to the fuel lines so they are completely empty. reconnect everything , add new gas and give it a try .
did you check the spark plugs?
before you start disconnecting fuel lines wait for answers from members who know more..

I will check the plugs, but I just put them in about a month ago, so I think it's unlikely that they are the cause.

It was sitting in cool weather with only about 1 gallon of fuel in the tank so I think that may be the issue.  I'll wait to hear more.

 Symptoms please;  does not crank, cranks slowly, cranks normal fuel pump primes 9you should hear it when you turn the key on), gauges sweep, gauges don't sweep, immobilizer light on etc.

No immo light, guages sweep, the "starter" or whatever is turning over the engine sounds normal, normal speed, everything works exactly as normal except the bike doesn't start.  The starter just runs.

have you tried to push start it on compression ?

if it turns over on battery with no problem, then pushing starting it wont help. You have to go through your basic check down.

is there air fuel and spark.

air- is usually not the case
fuel, check the fuel pump and see if it primes on key start. you should hear it. make sure there are no obstructions in teh fuel line.
spark is usually the most common failure point next to a bad fuel pump.

take the plug out with the cap andground it and try to crank it. the plug should spark.

if you smell gasoline from the injectors theres gas. but if you see no spark then either the coil died, or the plug is dead or so on. if both plugs are dead its usually the timing sensor because that tells the ecu when to fire the plugs.

After not working for two days, it stared running again.  It ran fine for a few miles and then the engine just cut out, and it would not start.

Yes, I can hear the fuel pump prime.

Alright, the bike ran fine for a few days and cut out in traffic today (and nearly killed me).  The engine just stopped dead, no sputter or anything.  I do not believe the fuel pump is priming anymore.  All other electronics (lights, gauges, starter) appear healthy and normal.

Any way I can test the fuel pump?

Maybe check the fuel FILTER?
Have you tried draining the gas and putting in NEW gas?
Past two weeks in PA have been pretty up and down for weather, could have a good amount of moisture in the tank if kept outside...

If the fuel filter hasn't been changed in 6K miles, change it.  It is a 6K maintenance item and can cause your problem.  While you are at it, dump the old fuel out and look for contamination.  Check for kinked fuel and vent lines.  Also open the fuel filler.  If there is vacuum you have a venting problem.  There is a fuel pump relay under the seat.  It is a four prong relay.  You can bypass it by pulling the relay and the brown wire to the brown/white wire.

You can apply 12volts directly to the pump at the connector under the tank.  Brown/white wire is positive and one of the black wires is ground, I don't remember which.  Try both, you won't hurt anything.  The pumps don't fail often.  Unfortunately, the pump powers through the low fuel sensor and sometimes that is where the break is.

Did you did check for spark as He Man suggested?
