I would not connect anything to a diagnosis port other than a diagnostic tool. The name itself tells you its a comm port which is connected directly to the ecu(abs).

FAIR ENOUGH. I'LL HAVE TO TAKE YOUR WORD ON THAT. ANY OTHER EASY SPOTS TO GET 12V TRIGGERED BY THE INGITION ?

as mentioned before be careful not to do anything that will affect the warranty.
If you don't care then I would tap into the headlight circuit, there is plenty of wiggle room as far as fuse rating goes.
If you do care call the dealer and ask what it would cost for them to add a fused and switched port for you to use.
Maybe a 100$ expenditure would be worth it.

I've used Eastern Beaver fuse blocks on a couple of bikes and they give you a lot of options for fused power. They come with a very nice tap which I used to tap into the parking light on my current bike. these taps are not the hinged jobbies which I hate.

I don't really need something fused. Most things you buy these days come with a fuse in the harness already. And if they don't, I've got plenty of extra in line holders lying around. The important thing is that the power is switched on and off with the ignition and that the connections are secure and water/dirt resistant. My bike is my main transport, so something that's only ok in dry, warm weather isn't gonna cut it.

Looked into the eastern beaver stuff. It's a bit more than what i need, buy i think i can make what i need from part they sell. They use a diode to keep from feeding current back into any microprocessors. Never would have thought of that!

I added a relay with a pick line to the rear light for switchable power, sourced directly from the battery.
I've got a 12V plug plus my heated grips switched thru it.
