I was going to go the GSXR internals route but found a super deal on some Superbike forks. Having them shipped to Eric at Clubhouse Motorsports. Will be shipping my forks and shock for a swap and service.

Nice!  I'm still looking for my deal...  [coffee]

If anyone is thinking of swapping Superbike internals with their stock Showa's, there's a set of damaged forks on Ebay that should be good for parts. Ebay # 121593471479

Just picked up a local set of 996 Showas with ti-nitride sliders from forum member eyduc.  Next step - package them up and send them to Eric to be given a once-over and resprung for my weight.

FYI - for future reference, i have a 2001 monster 900s i.e. and the current forks that are on the bike (stock) are 717mm from center of axle bolt to the top of the fork tube.  This is the EXACT same length as the SBK forks i just bought.

I won't need to move to clipons, like has been suggested from other members and their monsters.  My stock bar risers and suburban machinery bars have more than enough space to clear the forks, so it won't be any different with the current setup (other than having to bore/shim my triple trees).  Overall this is looking to be a very simple swap  [Dolph]

current forks on 2001 900s and stock risers with suburban bars.  The 996 forks are a direct drop-in height-wise (no change from axle bolt center and top of fork body) to the forks pictured.

And the new 996 forks, after cleaning them up with some scotch-brite.  :).  There was a fair amount of grime/sap? caked on one of the slider legs, and i probably will do another pass at cleaning, but they came out clean.

if you swap the outers and caps they'll go straight in.

I don't have any fork legs to measure, but the slide bush (the one on top of the inner leg) is 44.7 mm outer diameter / 1.5 mm wal thickness on all SBK forks  later than 888 that I've done, an 43.7 mm / 1.0 mm on all of the 54/50 mm forks. Thow would indicate that the inner diameter of the forks is different, so possibly you'd have to swap the bushings as well. Or at least check how things fit together.
Monster 900-2002 (sold, alive and well in the UK), 749R / 1100 HYM combo for track days, wifes / my Monster Dark 800-2003 (not entirely "Dark" anymore and a personal favourite) , 50% of 900SSie -2000 track bike for rainy days-now with tuned ST2 motor and Microtec ECU. Also parked due to having been T-boned on track.

Baz, what kind of fork lowers do you have?

The lowers are 65mm caliper spacing, non-ti nitride as they are a monster 900s fork.  25mm axle diameter

Are there any board sponsors that would machine the upper triple to 53mm for me?  I'd prefer to ship it out and get it done through someone with some experience rather than take it to a local shop.
