Ok, I guess where I'm confused is where it says I have to enter the second black key for it to work. What if I just try using one? Will the process not complete I guess?

I have the red key and only one black key. So I would have to buy another ducati key uncut or have a locksmith clone it, if that's possible.

I ran into the same problem.  The manual is wrong - maybe an old procedure - my display didn't have the countdown either.  Brad Black gave his procedure and it worked for me.

"red key in. turn on. turn off within a second or so. fit original black key. repeat. fit new black key. repeat. refit red key. repeat. turn on with red key and leave on for 15 or so seconds. turn off for at least a minute. fit black key and start.

make sure you only have one key near the ignition at once."

Two black keys - no more no less - or I couldn't get it to work.  I think the first part - when turning the red key on, you need to wait until a light blinks but that should happen within the second or so before turning it off.

This procedure will work for one red and 3 black keys, just did it for a customer.

Two black keys were the originals, and the additional one was a brand new key.

Why would anyone have to go thru this torture.  My '01 M750 Ducati doesn't have this issue.  Where is technology taking us?
