Yup, I think those two pics show exactly the difference.

Plus the GT is a 190 vs the Rosso II 180.

Unfortunately, the Rosso II is the only tire of that class in that size (180/60/17). And, due to the TC, it can't be easily replaced with something different. Being a commuter means that a tire that only lasts 6000 miles is not a viable option...

Update:

Tire now has over 11k miles on it and still looks good. Regarding the TC, I did end up changing it from 4 (of 8 ) down to a 3. I was getting a bit of intervention in tight corners on exit. Wheel didn't seem to be slipping but the TC light was coming on. So far so good.

But yeah, the GT looks like it has at least another 5k miles on it. Maybe more.
