I hate doing this.  I had to let a employee go today,  it sucks.  He deserved it, but still having to listen to him try and dig his way out of the hole he put himself in depresses me.

Mainly it was attendance issues, we have a rule that if you are 15 min late you don't come in for the day. The only exceptions are if you clear it a week or so in advance.  He would constantly call in saying he would be late because he had to take his girlfriends son to work....  this would have been fine, if there was a schedule, but it was all random.  Plus there was work performance issues.

But the last straw was a anyomous call (from another employee) let me know that his work truck was parked outside his house, a half hour after starting time (basically, he came in, got his truck and went home.)  I drove out, and sat down the street with a camera and took a picture every half hour, for nearly two hours, before he left and went to the field.  My boss, called him on it, and he said he was out in the field since 7am (when I pulled up) We pulled him in and gave him a week suspension and a final warning... after he left I took a look at his scanner (used on a route to time stamp jobs) and it was showing work done....

basically he had copys of barcodes, and was using it to fake being in the field.....  So I had to go check on the work that had been "done"..... and none of it was, for the past two weeks.

IM just waiting for his final check (takes a day or so)

I feel bad for you, not him.
I've had to fire two in the past 8 weeks. One for screwing up a job, and one for attendance/job quality.
I swear I feel as bad as they do.

I had to fire someone for stealing, after that I really did not want to have anything to do with managing others.

To make matters worse.... due to the state budget... er or lack there of, I cannot replace him.  Which means I get crap.

As for the race party, on government forms I check the box that says "White/Non-Hispanic." Is their an opening for one of those at your race parties?

welcome to state employment.... we had to fire  him under misusing state vehicles to avoid a lawsuit.
