We have traffic officers that take the majority of accident reports so this was the first time I had to take a moto vs van report. It's nice to be able to stick up a bit for an innocent rider for once.

The rider was ok even though he was wearing shorts (!), along with a really nice armored jacket  [roll]. It was funny talking with him though.

Me (writing all his info down): That a DRZ?
Him: Yep.
Me: An "S" right?
Him: Uh, yeah (shocked that I know anything about bikes).
Me: How fast were you going?
Him: probably about 20 MPH. I just left the light and it happened right here (100+ yards from the light).
Me: 20? I don't think so. I'd be going at least 40 by that point. On a supermoto probably faster.
Him: Yeah, your right. I was going at least 40.
Him: Sucks though. It looks like alot of damage.
Me: You have a broken footpeg, that's $100 for a pair. Clutch lever at $40. The shift lever and handgaurd are scuffed. It's a supermoto, it's supposed to be scuffed.
Him: Uh, yeah. I guess your right.
Me: Take the extra dough you saved and buy some pants to go with your armored jacket and ti fingered gloves.

Then I got to talk to the unlicensed driver of the van:
Me: Here's your citation for turning in front of another vehicle and for driving without a license.
Her: It's his fault, he was speeding.
Me: Was he going straight, and was he on the street before you started your turn?
Her: Yes. I just didn't see him.
Me: He has the right of way, it's your responsibility to make the sure your path is clear before you start your turn. BTW: I'm gonna need your car keys.
Her: My car keys?
Me: Yep, you can pick your van up in 30 days. That's the penalty for driving without a license in the State of CA. You have a cell phone or do you need me to call someone to come pick you up?

haha nice.

And the DRZ rider should thank someone/something he wasn't worse off, and you were the LEO on the scene.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.
