Monster / 900ss parts interchangability?

Wrecked my '00 M900ie - thinking of replacing it with an older ('96-'98) 900ss/sp. Does anyone know if any of the Monster parts will do me any good on the SS? Maybe brakes, wheels, exhaust (FBF full system), clipons, forks? How about alum clutch basket, or even cyl heads? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks - Tom

exhaust wont work. Rear downpipe and swingarm are in each others way. I quickly realized that when trying to put a 900ss pipe on my m900

The only parts of any serious note that will fit will be engine parts.  None of the chassis bits are the same at all.  I have a '95 900SS SP and can give it a hearty thumbs up.  Great bike.  Of course it needs its own host of modifications to get the best out of it, but that's half the fun.  PM me if you want more info and contacts for SS stuff.  This is one of those collectible bikes that I'll never let go of.  Go for it!

+1 on the SS desirability. 

but beg to disagree on the chassis parts.  The frame and exhaust are differrent, as are the Tank body parts foot pegs etc.   but the wheels, brakes, engine parts, forks, most electronics (with the possible execption of the instrument cluster, without mods) , all will transfer.   

If you get an ss, go for Hi comp pistons (944 if possible), light flywheel, light marchisinis, get rid of the coffin master cylinder, get nichols frame bolts, head port & polish ST2 cams, get the forks revalved, and get a good rear shock, then go out and run down some unsuspecting 4 valve guys.  booo yeaa

Wheels may or may not depending on axle diameter.  My Monster is 25mm and the '92SS is 17mm.

AFAIK:

SS forks are longer than Monster forks, which would eliminate the ability to have the clip-ons above the triple.
Not sure if clip-ons below the triple will work on an SS.

Engine stuff will work.

Wheels, if the axle diameters are same.

Brakes will work, confirm that the caliper bolt spacing is the same.

  Yep.  I figured it out the same way you did when i switched from a M750 engine to an M900 last year.  Now I have a 900SS header that I just listed on eBay.  I'll probably still have it after the auction is over.

Reviving an old thread here...

Can anyone confirm 900SS fork dimensions?  Diameter at top/bottom triple, brake caliper offset and axle size?  I'm trying to see if '01 900SS forks will fit on my '05 M620 without modifications.

They are certainly longer, don't know diameters right now. I'm headed to the shop, if they have one on hand, I'll grab some calipers and take some readings.

I have a set of '99-'01 900SS forks getting new seals, bushings, etc. which will be going on my M800.  The upper tube (at the triple) diameter is 50mm, lower tube diameter is 54mm, both the same as Monster.  They are longer than the Monster forks (non-adjustable Marzocchis) by about 3.5 inches, counting the adjuster assemblies.
