a cop told my cousin to suck his dick or he'd arrest her after pulling her over for nothing.  he apparently spotted her coming out of a mall and thought she was hot.   she spent the night in jail.  cop finally got busted after about 20 women had complained.

i hear your and if you'd have plugged him in that situation, you'd have been in the right.

i am not saying that woman in the video wasn't dealt with properly -- it just knocks a bit.  if she had lunged at the pm, i wouldn't have any problem with it.  i guess that's the issue -- what a civil person would do.

fortunately, i don't do criminal law.  i would just hang everyone.

That woman was non compliant. How many times does a LEO have to tell you to do something?

My parents taught me to respect the law. It is obvious that this woman had a different view on things.
Why do roaches always die on their back?

That because the survivors flip them over to steal their sneakers and wallets.

Watching the video is immediately shocking (couldn't help it, sorry)  but the officer tried to reason, was without back up, woman was not rational and then came the call for help on cell phone.  Please, the officer tried and the situation could have been worse if he didn't use the tazer.

it bothers me as well. i understand the escalation process, it seemed to happen really quickly though!

we had a famous case of a lost and confused polish man being tased in an airport becasue he was 'unresponsive or uncommunicative'. they tased him twice and he died.

seems like such a shame, and a lot of pain for a non-aggressive act.

that said, if there are people coming at you then by all means, taser them or something but i don't see a threat here. yet anyway.

well, the diference here is she was arguing with the cop.  the polish guy was babbling and the airport cops claimed he lunge at them (which later video showed was a lie).

i am not saying the woman shouldn't have been tazed.  perhaps that really is the best way to have dealt with it.

the question i guess i would ask is, how would they deal with it without a taser?  chances are, it would involve direct contact and possibly endanger the officer.  if that is the alternative, then tase away.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

ya, i suppose she was arguing with them (and i am not defending her actions, she should have done as instructed) but my point is not what she was doing but how fast the taser came out. people DO die, not as many as die from being shot with a pistool of course, lol, but it is a bit of an extreme response, IMHO.

good question, how do you deal with it? would it be such a strange thing for the officer to go back to his car and call for backup rather than give her 'fiddy-k'? if his safety is such a concern vis-a-vis hauling her azz out of the car.

as you may suspect i am leery of tasering people who AREN'T threatening anyone.

the polish guy didn't speak english and they didn't bother to get someone who did. it's a crap way to go, over that.

tiz I see where you are going with this.  Let's take a look at another similar stop in comparison.  No taser used.  If you ask me, I think this guy acted like a professional. I agree that that other lady got what was coming to her, but the following is the proper way to handle it IMHO.

A civil person takes the citation, and fights in court, an asshole acts like that.
I have been in a similar situation before trying to pull a female acting just like that out of the car, when her brother first, charged at me from the other side of the car. Took him down with a dry stun, only to see her dad charging at me with an axe raised over his head.
He survived that encounter only because I already had my tazer in my hand. Took a chance and zapped him five feet from me.  All three of them spent time in jail.

Wow you are good man for showing restraint.  I think if someone came at me with axe over his head it would be an emptied magazine in his chest.
If you love your bike, set it free.
If it comes back to you, you've
probably high-sided.

Direct contact is exactly how they would have to deal with it. She would get hurt and the PO would get hurt dragging her from the car, maybe just a little maybe more. With the taz it's a non lethal alternative to hard force. It makes the noncompliant compliant.

The taser  was not drawn till the 4 min mark of the stop (the video was edited watch the time stamps in the top corner) After it was drawn she was given 4 verbal warnings over the course of 17 seconds.

she was given plenty of time....  I remember when this first came out on TV,  the whole drama takes like 6 min. to play out in real time.

She was on the phone, calling someone, telling them where she was.

What do you think was going to happen if that person showed up?

If I was in the position of the officer, I would think it was a threat. She was saying where she was when she got tased. There aren't a lot of reasons to do that.

well, it is broad daylight, not 200 miles from anything, and how many folk actually threaten police officers these days over a traffic stop?? maybe she doesn't have onstar and just wants someone to know where she is in case something bad happens? i mean you are reaching a bit with the phone call thing, she still isn't threatening him IN ANY WAY as far as i can tell, police officers obviously may feel differently...

again, i think this is reaching. again, i am not an officer but i think the dude overreacted, to say the least. sure he was pissed, sure she's a cow but what was she going to do, shoot him with her mobile? and this 'mystery thug' on the other end of the phone, c'mon. you don't taser someone for talking on the phone. you yell at them, fine. taser? no.

the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) says this:

With regard to use, which seems to generate the most public concern, PERF suggests prohibiting the following, among others:  use on passive subjects, pregnant women, elderly persons, young children, and handcuffed persons. IACP recommends that department policy (1) establish when and under what circumstances officers may use the weapons and (2) clearly state inappropriate uses.

while she was clearly agitated she was more passive than aggressive. the officer in question is using his defensive less-lethal weapon in an offensive fashion it seems

The moment she didn't comply and stayed in her car, she got what was coming to her.

The end

(really it would have been worse for her if they didn't taser her....  )

Well, here's a couple things. You don't live in the U.S. so you may not have an accurate feel for the way people act here. I have seen too many police videos where people attacked an unsuspecting officer. It's things like this that force the officer's to be on heightened alert.

Do you think she would have continued to act the same way if he had pulled his service weapon? One would hope not, but you never know.

He acted appropriately for the situation, she didn't die (which she could have on her own if he had not pulled her over in the first place)...
