The biggest styling atrocity and the easiest to fix are those ridiculous cartoon like exhaust cans.  How that got past the final review I'll never know. ...  At least other manufacturers are coming out with mufflers that don't look like something Wile E. Coyote ordered from the ACME company.
I think the exhaust cans are one the best features of the bike. Why?  Two birds, one stone. Replace the cans with aftermarket (which most people will want to do anyway), and lose the excess weight of the cat. You don't need to by new headers to remove the udder like on the SxR.

It's f'ing weird, but the more I look at the new Monster style, the more I really like it.

I think that after years of looking at the mod possibilities for the old style, I'm starting to see the possibilities with the new style.

And I like 'em!  [thumbsup]
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

My 1098 had cats in the mufflers without looking like a Dr. Suess creation.

here's a thought. how much room is under the tail section of the new style monsters as far as after full compression of the rear suspension?
Maybe flipping the cans inside of the tail instead of outside would clean up the rear.

A decent solution for 696 stock exhausts...

Now  these look cool!

It's funny, if a bike comes stock with high pipes, people will want low pipes and vice versa....

Agree completely. First time I looked at it I thought tonka toy.  Then I saw some of the photoshops on TOB where they blacked out the rear frame added clipons etc and I started to change my mind.  After seeing the bike at the dealer regularly it's grown on me.

Your comment about an eye to modding brought another thought to mind though.   for all those that hate it and prefer the old Monster's you gotta wonder if it was such a perfect piece of modern art why is it that a majority of its owners have modded them so drastically (engine, suspension, seating, transmission, looks, riding postition).  A number of the biggest  [puke] probably have as much into the mods they've done to their bike as they had buying the bike stock.

Not saying this to accuse anyone of anything, or to diss the Monster - I love my bike and won't be moving to another anytime soon.  It's just an observation.

For what it's worth I think the new Monster has as much an upside for mods as the old with some obvious mods no longer requiring cutting tools.  I'd love to see the bike in the video with the supposed SSA and black rearsets that eliminate that damn passenger peg set up.   I do hate the rearsets entirely.

2005 S2R -- Mods installed: DP termi full racing kit, ST4 Forks, S4R rear shock, 999 Radial Brake and Clutch MCs, 4 pot Brembo Calipers, 320mm Snowflake rotors, SBK Quick change carrier, 43T rear sproket, Tomaselli Clip Ons, Cyclecat Frame Sliders, ASV Levers, zero indicators, Supernova taillight

Where's the rest of the frame?

I know you said you didn't like the rearsets, but here what I've done with the bike so far. Blacked out forks, headlight bracket, rearsets, handlebar risers,   air intake screens, and heat shields. I agree with you. This bike will look a lot better after people start getting new ideas. The original style has been modded every way you can think. So will this one.

Those are bad a**!! Only if I can have them in black. Guess I could always have them ceramic coated.

Thanks bro! As soon as Mark from Motocreations releases his boomtubes exhaust for the 696, I'll be good to go.

So does the HMT....

No, it doesn't.

The stock exhaust's cat is in the same location as the udder on the S*R Monsters.

It's just hidden much better.

You can see it in this pic...
