wonder if the MHT rear sets work on the 696? they have removable rear passenger pegs.

From the pics of the 696, it looks like the bolts are in the same position.

But the passenger pegs on the Hyper are quite a bit farther forward, so I don't know how comfortable they would be for a passenger on a 696.

There're also a couple of other things that would have to be worked out if using them on a 696 (assuming the bolts line up).  For example, the different mounting of the rear brake master cylinder.

Looking at picks of that Hyper has me dreaming of that swingarm on a M1100......

Wonder how much you'd have to raise the rear to be able to put a similar exhaust on the M1100?

Quite a bit.

yeah but with the new rear subframe i think that's going to be easier that before. design a new subframe and unbolt the old one. so much easier than the chopping/welding that happening on the old style monsters.

Does anyone know if the SSS from the Hyper, or any other ducati, would fit on the 696? What all would I have to change out other than the swingarm and the wheel?

I imagine you would have to go to a completely new exhaust system to even begin getting that to work.  All things considered, once you start looking at the cost of that, the new swingarm and all the necessary bits (bearings, brake fitment adapters and so forth) you will be getting to the point where it is more cost effective to sell your 696 and get another bike that more fits the style you want.

What do you ride? a 695? doubt it... so when you compare apples to apples and not some tricked out superpowered monster to a entry level monster.
Pound for pound the new monster out handles the old monster. and I'm certain the new M1100 will blow away a lot of naysayers. give it a chance, ride it when it gets here. then talk your trash.
and by the way, bet you have a SSS monster... that's not the original monster either. that's way more styled then the original monster was so dont tell me the new monster is trying to be something more than it's supposed to be.
I'm so fricking tired of this crap. the monster is a ducati. and if you keep wanted to trash the company for creating a great bike that may not be to your style (even if you guys are blind) then sell your freaking bikes and buy a damn Ninja.
You don't deserve to have the italian passion.

Wow.  You have a small man complex or something?  Must me tiring carrying around all that p!ss and vinegar.  Now get back on your Ruckus and ride back to your shanty.

C'mon man, there's no need for that.

That was 5 pages back in the thread and all the parties involved have calmed down and moved on.

althought there could be responses. ... a lot of that was due to 696-style monster bashing, and frankly i was tired of it... but it's all cool now. thing is, we all ride Ducati. and can't we all just get along  :P

As i see it the Hyperfighter will bee the new real Monster.
If rumors are true its the 1198 engine from the 1098R without titan stuff and 150 hp and loads of torque in a frame based on the hypermotard.
I need to accept the new Monster shape and move on.

Raux

didn't i read they aren't producing the hyperfighter? or was that a Desmosedici naked?

Big Troubled Bear

Now this was the most entertaining thread I have read in a long time, I hate the Multi stroodle but love DUCATI, sometimes you have to live with it [thumbsup]

So, I have an M696 in my garage tonight. My S2R1k is off getting the 20,000 km service and I got the 696 as a loan bike. Took it for a reasonable ride before work cause I figured I wouldn't have it tonight. Turns out my S2R1k wasn't finished today so I got to take the 696 home. I'll take it for another twisty ride tomorrow, but, here's my review. I've copied it from another forum where I already have given my review.

This does have bearings on the M1100 though, as you'll see.

In short: what I don't like about the new monster will not be changed my in an M1100 or an M1100S. For a downspec Ducati it has really nice suspension (and, way better than any of the Japanese naked bikes for the same price) and really superb brakes. The engine isn't bad. Like any aircooled twin it doesn't have the most power, but it is perky. Very smooth, too, they've got the fuelling better.

Shit I don't like? The ergos are, in my opinion, a step backwards. The seat is too short, the pegs are in the wrong spot, the bars are way too far towards you. In short, you sit a lot further forwards on the bike and it makes for not a good posture. It'd be comfortable for those who ride nakedbikes with a pole up their arse and their arms at 45 degrees, pointing down at the road. I, however, ride how one should, with my forearms parallel to the road. When I do that, I'm way too close to the speedo (have to VERY conciously look down to see it) and my head is way forwards.

Not really sold on the LCD based tacho, either, but thems the way of the future and it does make for a very compact display. Lots more options to look at, like temp, revs, you can do the cool datalogging setup (just like the 1098), use the display as a laptimer yada yada yada.

I stand by my comments that it fell from the ugly tree and hit at least a few branches on the way down. Some parts look nice, and it does look compact. I got some fellow riders at work to comment (hrrm, looks make the beast with two backsing tiny was the general impression) as well as some people who are non-riders. All prefer the less chunky trellis of my S2R1k, and *everyone* noticed the cast subframe.

It's not a bad bike, just not what I want. Should my S2R1k be written off I'd either be looking for another one, or buying something else entirely. A HM1100 would be more tempting, tbh, than the M1100, even if they do one in an S guise.

---- Summary
Some stuff would be mod-able in terms of the looks. It is diminutive, but it fails the chicks-at-work test, which the S2R1k passes and my previous sportsbikes have simply rated a neutral, or, worse, a downright "piss off that's ugly". So it's better than some Jap bikes, but, doesn't beat an oldschooler with the SSSA (some liked the DSS of someone else's Monster better thoguh).

Handling good, brakes excellent for a downspec Monster. Motor is nice.

Ergos don't work for me and my body shape. Everyone's desires in ergos are different, so, perhaps, if it fits you and you're in the market for a nice naked bike, it isn't a bad choice. Sure beats, say, the Z750 or the GSR600 in the suspension and braking department.
