05 S2R800

« on: September 02, 2008, 11:19:23 PM »

Hi again
On our S2R800's we have twin mufflers any advantage to this or is it easier to tune the bike if it only had one muffler?

Hmmm.. sorry I don't know the answer.

There are a few 2 into 1 aftermarket endcan options available but I didn't think it would make much difference for tuning. Maybe the benefit is in reduced weight.

Wait a while. Maybe Brad will chime in with some words of wisdom if he's had a go at setting one up with a single end can.

not sure about the 800, but i know with mine they tuned each cylinder individually using the exhaust ports in the headers and each throttle body individually. Therefore i dont think it would matter as its tuned at each cylinder and has nothing to do with the mufflers.

Vince has a single Akrapovic on his S4R.

Maybe he would know something.  Huh?

I believe MonsterDorf has a 2into1 on his S2R800, if he doesn't get around to reading this you might PM him to ask about his motivations and experiences with this type of system.

I suspect most decisions are based on look, cost and weight .... but we all do things for our own reasons and that includes exhaust manufacturers I s'pose.

that's the main point.  fit what you want.

i don't think the 800 makes enough power or revs high enough to really have an issue with a single muffler.  just don't put bigger headers on it - people seem to love doing that and it doesn't help at all.  it'll cost you power for most if not all of the rpm range ime.

we put one of our s4rs headers on to a s4rs with a remus 2-1 slip on muffler, but i didn't get to do any testing with it.  one of those "part of a bike sale" deals.  apparantly it went ok, but s4rs are a bit stupid in the practical power dept anyway so it's all relative i guess.  i've been riding one this week with an arrow full system and u59 and the first two gears are useless.  with the cam timing done it stands up so fast in second it's annoying.  but i'm getting off the point now.

Good to get confirmation on that (about the headers). When I had my custom pipes done he was originally going to do the headers too (and I was initially a little bit bummed when he didn't). I was told that the header pipe was a slightly smaller diameter (can't remember what) than what he typically used and that the best thing to do was keep the standard header and gradually increase the pipe diameter.

.... and he polished up the original headers quite nicely (but that ain't gonna last forever)

I looked at a bunch of variations for my S2R 800 and ended up with the Remus Revolution and 2-1 collector. The "udder" was replaced with a Spark pipe by Desmoworld.

I spent a fair bit of time mulling over the various options and Bevan from EuroTwins Brisbane (the best in Brisbane) had fitted the Remus to a bike and thought the 2-1 was good quality and bend radius. He also commented on sound which he felt was pleasing, with the option of DB killer.

I e-mailed Remus and they got back to me within 24hours. I ordered the pipe in the week leading up to Christmas and the Oz importer couldn't find the 2-1, so Remus Austria shipped one "express" no cost to me to ensure I had it all done for Christmas.

Been really happy with it. I didn't change the ECU or airfilter and it doesn't seem to run lean. All in all more than happy with the outcome.
