Desmostro and I have been talking with Hypurone and his buddy, Rich, about organizing a ride through Napa.  Both Hypurone and Rich are from the Sonoma/Napa area so thanks in advance for guiding us through some of these beautiful roads!   waytogo

Date: SUNDAY, September 14th
Meeting Place 1:   Starbuck's at Strawberry Village at 8:00 am. Kickstands up at 8:15 am
Meeting Place 2:   8:45 am - Union 76 station at the 4 corners instersection (116, 121, 12, Bonness). We will have a 20 min run to meet Rich in Rincon Valley (at a Chevron so we can gas up there) and start the fun stuff!
Route Info:   see below route suggestion from Hypurone

Who's In:
Desmostro
CharliesAngel
GreyDuc
Jammen
Alex D.
Mert (Desmostro's neighbor)

Who's In @ Meeting Place 2:
Hypurone
Rich

Weather is going to be foggy by the coast, so we're doing the inland route finishing at 1 pm, with plenty of time for lunch and a wine tasting/spitting in the afternoon for those who want to join  Vino! cheeky

Here is the inland route I was talking about with the short hop over thru Angwin would get you guys back in plenty of time for wine tasting:

Please reply to this thread if you think you can make it on the 14th.  I'll start posting up who is in.  Thanks!  Very much looking forward to it!

Ciao-

If you're worried about the heat, start early (as planned) and head inland first. Then take a coastal route for the latter half/return, and enjoy some of the cooler air off the Pacific.

YES! This is what I did last week. It was brilliant and comfortable the whole way.
Forecast - though a ways out, looks sunny and perfect. We should be excited for the lingering Summer!

PS bike fixed. I'm in waytogo

Maybe we should start putting all that on a map. That's a lot of text to figure out & I don't know 1/2 the road's names.

I got the map info from Charlie and tweaked it to reflect the road we call the Goldmine Rd (I believe it is actually Knoxville Rd) and sent it back to her. The Inland route "naturally" ends up near the wine tasting area you wanted. The coast route we can shorten up a bit and get back in to Petaluma around 2-2:30. From there it's only 25 mins over to the Carneros area...

I checked weather.com again today and now they are calling for 90 degrees inland, 70's on the coast. Sounds like a coast run to me!

Guys/Gals. Rich called me today and said the fog has been pretty heavy up his way and has been taking a long time to clear. This usually means fog at the coast in copious amounts and may not clear at all. With this change, the weather reports have once again changed to mid-upper 80's for the inland route.

What say you all? Go to the coast and risk it? Go inland and ride the Goldmine Rd?!!  [moto] We would get thru 75-80% of the ride by 1pm and have just the run down the canyon and over thru Angwin left, as the temp gets to their high range and you guys head off for your taste/spit.

Lemme know so I can call Rich

Due to the fog, my vote is for the inland route.  It's no fun riding in what feels like rain and not being able to see anything!  Looking forward to Sunday's ride!!!  [moto] [moto]

If a consensus is reached to go inland, then I will meet you at the Union 76 station at the 4 corners instersection (116, 121, 12, Bonness). We will have a 20 min run to meet Rich in Rincon Valley (at a Chevron so we can gas up there) and start the fun stuff!

Any chance of your arrival at 8:45am?  Grin

If kickstands up at 8:15 am from Strawberry Village, I think we should be able to make 4 Corners by 8:45 am, non?

You will be pretty close to it I imagine with light traffic. It takes 25-30mins from my work in Lucas Valley at somewhat sane speeds.  laughingdp

If my alarm goes off early enough and I can drag myself out of bed I will see you guys at Strawberry Village by eight am.   Might even get there early and try to wake up the rest of the way.   coffee

I did a 406 mile day a few weeks ago with some Barfers so this one being close to 500 doesn't scary me.......too much.  I'm a glutton for punishment.  bang head
