I figured that her and her sister were twins, and that she found out that this guy was her sister's s/o. She killed her sister and took her place. Used her sister to replace her, basically faking her own death. But before killing her sister, uped her life insurance policy. Now she has the guy and a big bag of loot.

I was torn between this and the "Sister sex change" scenarios.  Though I hadn't considered the big bag of loot, only taking sis' place.
