Heavy Modded 696 at Indy
«
on:

I snatched these pics from
this thread
form BARF. Apparently, they are of a 696-style monster at Indy. Hopefully, some DMFers got some shots as well and can post up. The photobucket pics are hosted by the original poster on BARF, so I can't guarantee how long they'll last.

I have *no* desire to open the 696 can-o-worms, but now that we're starting to see what people do with the 696 canvas, I'm getting excited. I'm looking forward to the creations that folks come up with.

NOW that's a great exhaust system for the 696. and you can use saddlebags!!!
and LOVE the red calipers.. definitely another mod i HAVE to do.
oooo and the polished rear subframe
still trying to figure out besides color what diff about the light. it's polished too, but lower?

That's it; I'm holding out on the new model untill Ducati makes THIS bike (OK, maybe an 1100 aircooled)
I only count 6 or so parts from the 696; all the rest is custom.

Seriously, the red calipers? They're one of the worst parts of the bike. They stand out like a sore thumb. Bling for the sake of bling. Blech. They should either be black or silver.
There's a lot of interesting stuff on that bike.
For example, those are Brake-Tech carriers, but what is that black rotor material?
The subframe does look a lot better when the casting is smoothed out. But I don't know if it should be polished. It detracts from the trellis.
Undertail exhaust are super-bling, but undertails are kinda "ho-hum" for me. They're more flash than substance. That said, that one is interesting. Looks more like the Desmosedici than the 1098.
Is that a 1098 swingarm?
What engine is that (all 4v look alike to me).
I wanna see a close-up of the instrument cluster. From a distance, it looks like an very cool cockpit view. What did they do with the brake and clutch reservoirs?

Whoever did that fixed many of the things i don't like about the 696.
1) Fixed the exhaust through the frame.
2) Fixed the rear swingarm.
3) Fixed the ugly rearsets.
On top of it all, they gave is a dry clutch motor.
That is now a very nice bike.
The only thing I'd change is the exhaust can. Maybe go with a dual round can/exit if possible.

ok, so a wish list comes from this bike and other threads. btw... this should be the BOTM [moto]
1) I like the smoothed casting on the rear subframe, and powdercoating it to match the front trellis makes the bike that much more 'one'
2) I would also like to see the same thing on the rear swingarm.
3) same thing for the headlight casting.
4) I do like the red calipers on the white bike because it brings out the red in the 'monster' on the tank. yes a style opinion, but it's one of the reasons, my helmet is red, black and white.
5) Black rearsets that have a removable passenger set.
6) after looking more, i don't like the angular exhausts, i like the underseat, but the hightail appearance could also be accomplished with boomtubes. or twin oval undertail exhausts
7) oil cooler, i still think Ducati will make a cooler aftermarket fit for the 696 because the mounts are there behind that screen in the front.
and if you really were to remove the bike from it's heart, painting the heart black is extra cool too
9) the barracuda chin piece

Yeah, I was wondering about those. If they are powdercoated I guess it won't last for long though.

Those are BrakeTech AXIS Iron Rotors.
and according to the Motowheels website "Black coating on the rotor blade pictured will come off with use, where it contacts the pad."
That exhaust is beyond cool, but I wonder what you do for tail lights. license plate? Blah I am being too practical.
EDIT: OK look again and I take it it is just a rolling chassis they are working on. Wiring is incomplete and no brake lines are a couple other things I spot.

Yes you are
. I'm really hoping Zard would pick this up and make one in CF with a solution for the lights & license plate of course
