Going to Houston
«
on:
September 15, 2008, 10:05:36 PM »
I'm going to Houston as part of HEB's relief effort. We are going to help the local teams get the stores open so you guys can get some food and toilet paper. Last I heard about 50 stores in the area have reopened. Any way, there is another motorcycle maniac on my team and we'd like to hook up with some of you Houston folks if we get any free time. I have El Matador's number so I'll text him when I get there. I guess I'll miss this Wednesday's meeting at Ming's but I'll be back for the next one and I'll tell toll tales of my adventures in hurricane land .

The old Mings is closed now here in Houston, but I live just a few blocks from there. That one long section has power now, but most of the neighborhood in that area still do not have power.
I'm up for a get together just to get a break, but I can't ride the bike yet. My number is 713.385.2465 I’d offer my place up for ya all out-of-towners but the smell and no power will probably make you cringed

Ewww. Good luck cleaning your fridge out. Any damage to the building you work at?

Yeah, I finally got someone in my house yesterday... someone from here went home last night to check on stuff and they were nice enough to take my house key and check on my house. Fridge surprisingly not so smelly, they said. No water leakage out of there, either, which is amazing.
There was some damage to the building I work at, a bunch of trees down, but the office is reopening tomorrow, I think. We're going to work here through Friday, then back in Houston. I gotta figure something out if my power still isn't back when I'm home this weekend.

Gimme a call if you come in and need anything. I've got plenty of room and power.

News from my dad is that his house had 3ft of salt water throughout, so it will have to be gutted; no structural damaged though. He lives off of Cedar Bayou in Baytown.
The whole Roseland Park area was flooded out.

someone keep me in the loop, the only concern I've got thus far is gas. I've been riding everywhere on the 748 to conserve and luckily one of my friends' dads had a store of gas at his place and offered some to me (only took like a gallon). Someone give me a call though nonetheless. A break would be welcome.
Here's what I helped out with yesterday...
probably the bestest fort evar... (luckily not my house, and the house itself wasn't really damaged)

Sorry I didn't add to this thread since i started it but I didn't have access to the net. El Matador, Chill, thanks for the invite. Unfortunately the closest I came to Houston was Clear lake. We stayed in Winnie and drove to a different store every morning. In addition to Clear Lake we went to Pasadena and Orange. We saw a lot of destruction along the way and a lot of communities were still without power. We didn't get much time off between jobs but we made the best of it, I never drank so much beer in my life. I just got back to Austin and I'm beat.

DUDE, I'm right next to clear lake and pasadena! And here in houston that's really not that far away from anywhere else. You should've called and let someone know!
