Further to that there is a new 5D coming out soon. Rumors suggest, 20 MP or so up from 12.8 MP. Digic IV processing and sensor cleaning but the big addition is a HD movie mode...... Can't wait already in line at Foto Reisel for one.....
Look out for the 2009 rides for the DMF Sydney crowd.

That's about as big as it's gonna get with current lens technology. The camera is well out performing the lenses at this point in time. Here's the 5D details.

from the link.... allowing the PowerShot G10 to deliver two major advantages: ultra-fast operation, and rich, low-noise images I underlined the low noise as this is my one stickler for the compact Canon's. My S5 IS takes great shots, but suffers noise. Maybe the G10 will be my next upgrade?? - Chris

You guys are making me feel outdated - my G3 still takes great pics and just won't stop working - how can I convince "she who must be obeyed" that I need a new camera if the old one is still working?

When I was shooting film, I always used Fuji Velvia and it was supposed to be the ducks guts in the film world and digital would never match it. Has digital caught up or has it caught up and taken off into the distance or hasn't it caught up just yet in terms of photo clarity (I don't know if I'm using the right word) P.S I know that the Digital platform itself is leaps and bounds ahead of film platform, this just comes down to the image.

Well Super I shot a RAW image the other day, processed through CS3 and turned it into a 72Mb file. And holey crap it looks like the Ducks Guts and that was on a snap that took 2-3 minutes to shoot.
