Anyway, bought a PCIII on ebay. They guy said it was a USB. it isnt. its for a 2003 620IE. Anyone know if i can load up a map for an S2R and make it run? Honestly, I am asking because i CANNOT find someone with a serial to USB cable. I dont even have a serial port.

Can you even connect the PCIII USB software to the serial versions?

I did. And he's being a pregnant dog. He said "it will work" etc. i said no it wont. filed a claim. in the resolution center, he says okay, i will take it back, and he also sends me an email saying hell return the shipping cost both ways. So I replied (in the resolution center) okay, give me your address, and verify the that you said you are goign to give me a full refund + shipping costs back to you. He hasn't said anything and its been over 24 hours.

I have 2 PCIII's in my house a PCIIIR an a PCIII USB. I found out my onw answer thouhg. USB software is not backwards compatible, so i have no way of loading a map onto it, which means im not even going to bother looking for a serial cable.

Anyone have a PCIII for sale? lol a USB ONE!

Best Buy, and probably Circuit City will have a USB to Serial converter.

Expensive, $40 if I remember.

we use those USB / serial converters at work here.  its a crap shoot ... i wouldn't rely on it.

you can also by a pcimcia card that has 2 serial ports on it This will work for sure. the usb to serial adapters do work most of the time. the old ones didn`t work as well.

Wouldnt matter anyway. PCIII USB software will not talk to a PCIIIR.

Hell, just go out and buy an old computer for your garage.  They practically give them away on craigs list.  Probably get one cheaper than a new cable!

+1.   What's the guy's username?  Glad you decided to go with straight USB.  Those adapters are really iffy.  Unfortunately a lot of the stuff I work on at work is still 9-pin serial, the stuff's a pain to work with.
