I will be in Bethesda next week for work and plan on bringing the monster. (weather looks good so far).   I should be getting out early at least two days.  I am looking to maybe go on a couple 1/2 day rides (4-5 hours).     [moto]  Any suggestions?  Maybe a run out to Duc Pond?  Or is it even worth fighting traffic to get  out of town and back in?

Rhodeside is also on my "to do" list for next week.   [beer]

At what time will you be leaving for your ride from Bethesda, lots of possibilities, but timing is key. And a trip out to Duc Pond would involve some good roads for those that know, we are losing daylight and you really need to get started NLT than 2:30 to miss rush hour. If it's AM heading West is a non-issue. Send me an email with the timing and I will give you some ideas, 2vtwin@comcast.net. - Gene

Yeah, Gene 'knows a few roads...' .  He'll get you there in style.

It can be quite a good ride to get out to DucPond and it's a good destination.  Coming back might suck depending on the time.  Traffic becomes an issue as you close in on Leesburg if you're too early.  And as noted, you'll probably not be going back on the roads that you came on - unless you like those ass puckering moments a twisty road in the dark will provide.

If you've got the time - maybe got out to the Pond and plan on dinner in Winchester that way you'll avoid the crappiest of the traffic.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Sounds like Duc Pond it is.  I need a couple of oil filters any way.  Might as well ride 140 round trip to get them right?   ;D

I am hoping to get on the road by 1:00, 2:00 at the latest.  And back whenever I get back.  No place I need to be in the evenings, just a hotel room.

I had made the assumption that I would be by myself because everyone would be busy on a week day afternoon.  The problem is I don't know exactly when or what day(s) for sure until I get there.  But anyone who is free is more than welcome to join me.  Shoot me a PM and I will send you my number.

I havent been to Duc Pond yet but I hear great things!  Depending on if I can shake this cold and close a couple of cabinet deals, I might be up for a little hookie!

I had plenty of daylight, so I took the longer route that you suggested and it was great.  Thanks again.  I am staying in Tysons Corner so there wasn't much traffic to fight at the end.  Took a great picture of the bike between some civil war cannons, won't be able to post it until I get home.  Karma is catching up with me though,  looks like a long wet ride tomorow.
