Any ideas what would cause a tail light and a license plate light to stop working at the same time?  Brake light and turn signals work, and the bulbs aren't burned out.  I have an 08 695 with a CW tail chop.  Going to get a circuit tester in the morning and start at the electrical connector on the right side of the bike.  Anybody seen anything like this?

They share a feed so I'd look for a bad connection or broken wire at the rear of the bike.

Had a very similar problem with the CW tail chop on my 696.  Took it to the dealer who commented about a light relay problem with some new 696s.  Afterward he came back and said the second to last fuse had blown out which controls the side lights and hi/low beams.  Problem is that the side lights worked as did the high beam but not the low.  Whatever they did it's fixed.

yeah when i did the CW tail chop test it blew the 15a fuse.
i had brake lights, turn signals but no head/tail/license light.
later when i turned it off and then on before checking that fuse, the 30a fuse blew.

unlpugged the CW tail and replaced fuses... no problems. have headlights (taillights still unplugged til i get the CW tail off. i am sending the kit back. (also didnt like the sharp edges or poor fit, but that's a different post)

I have a 696 with the tail kit.  15a fuse blew and right signals and brake light wouldn't work.  replaced fuse.  everything works fine until I use the brakes.  Then the brake light flashes for just a fraction of a second, then blows the fuse.  Is there anything I can check into, or is this a dealer issue.  Dealer installed tail kit. (and it worked fine for 3 thousand miles)

You have a short, probably short to ground.  First I would speak to the dealer since the tail kit was installed by them.

checked the license plate light connection and make sure it isn't grounding. it's the worst connection of all of them back there and was my problem.

well today I dropped the tail kit to check it out.  removed license plate to get a better look.  Checked all connections and everything seemed fine.  Put it all back together and the brake light works fine.  wtf?!  I have no idea what I fixed, but I guess I'll just hope it lasts. [thumbsup]

moving it around probably moved the connection from grounding. i would go back and shrink wrap the connectors.

Well, the fuse blew again.  I used electrical tape on all the connections in the tail kit (assuming it was there).  took it out for a ride and two blocks from my house the same fuse blew.  got home, changed fuse, unplugged tail kit harness and tried the brake lever again.  fuse blew.  so it's not in the tail kit.  I'll have to call my dealer tomorrow and hopefully they'll provide transportation for the bike to the shop since it is under warranty and unridable without a brake light or signals. ( and I'm an hour and a half away)
