Pilot launches jetpack adventure

A Swiss pilot is hoping to become the first person to fly solo across the English Channel using a single jet-propelled wing.

Yves Rossy will take a plane to more than 8,200ft (2,500m), ignite jets on a wing on his back, and then jump out.

He aims to complete the 22 mile (35.4 km) flight from Calais to Dover in 12 minutes reaching speeds of 125mph.

Proving once again there is a fine line between being a total stud and completely insane.   :o

Really, I'm not sure which side this guy is on.  The videos of him flying through the Alps are awe inspiring.  I just hope he has a parachute tucked away in that wing somewhere.

and a life raft.  I'm sure that wing isn't going to float to well.

It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

Yeah he's got one.  Watch the video on the BBC page.  The 'transition' shall we say from flight to parachute is, er, a little rough looking.  Hope he's wearing a neck brace too...
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.
