What are the pros and cons of bike jacks as opposed to stands? A harley friend suggested I use a jack and my first thought seems the balance issue should be considered. Any feedback is always appreciated.

well harleys have a frame underneath. our engine is the frame member on the bottom. would that make a difference is choosing whether to use a bike jack?

This is what you can do with a jack as opposed to stands... Great for suspension work; I just put an ohlins shock on and a new lower triple in this pic...

Yup. Cuz of the header. The jack is designed for Harleys or something so the blocks surround the header and rest on the engine block. Overall very stable. I had it sitting like that last winter for weeks on end.

I personally use front and rear stands.  Rear suspension work, I use a ladder to hold the bike up.  I will never use a ladder to replace my chain though.   Roll Eyes Wink

OOOOOO Yeah.
I remember the thread on TOB.  Read it right when it was posted.  I saw the pic and the slowest, deep down chuckled/smirk welled up inside me.  I must have realized what I saw subconsciously.  Then as I slowly realized what happened, like how you laugh after a good, cleaver/smart joke, I started to laugh out, then laugh uncontrollable.  It was great

I've done the same thing (albeit with a section of black steel pipe, I don't have a big-ass screwdriver like that).
But these days I have front and rear stands. Cheesy

Any way we can get the story behind that? Maybe copy some info from TOB?

Who ever dares to should copy and paste the original entry from TOB.  One of the best laughs I have ever had.
