like never [laugh]

it was cool to see most of them out on the track..... running at speed, not just in a parade.

I know exactly what you mean.

There's an annual vintage race at the VIR that I try to go to when I can.

A couple of years ago, we were wondering aloud what one of the cars was.

Turns out the guy's wife was sitting next to us and told us it was a Chapparal 1.

I don't know if you're familiar with them or not, but I had to look it up on the interwebz when I got home.

They only built 5 of them and they're worth roughly a mil apiece now, and this guy was out there racing his, balls out.

Pretty effing awesome.

I love the Birdcage.  Those things are so cool.

And a BMW M1... how often do you see one of those??

They've got Warhol's at the nearby Greenville, SC BMW plant unless they've moved it since I was there last.  That's the only one I've ever seen  ~

Cool pics BP, thanks for taking the time to share!

There was an M1 at Universal Technical Institute when I went there.  Actually got to do some wiring on it and drive it around the parking lot.  Very cool car.

Anyone else get a Speed Racer flashback looking at the first couple sets? Why the hell didn't they use nice cars like those instead of all that epilepsy causing flashy CG crap.  ???

I've sat in this car.

I've heard it start and run.  It's ridiculous.  You can't even imagine.

A couple years ago my father in law calles me and tells me to get to his house.  His next door neighbor has 1mil in race cars in his driveway.

I get there and sure enough, he's right.  I met the car's owner and got the story on it.  This guy loves old race cars, buys them, restores them and drives them.

At the time (he told me) that vette has the speed record at daytona at more than 200mph (240-something comes to mind, but don't quote me)

Guys name is Lance Smith (not sure if he still owns that car or not, but I bet he does)

It has mechanical fuel injection, cutting edge for the day, with a rotary fuel delivery system.

It had an idle so low, I could pick out exhaust pulses alternating between the left and right pipes when standing behind the thing.

When he blipped the throttle I thought my chest was going to collapse.

It was heaven. 8)
