No, we're too busy pouring hot wax on ourselves and ripping out our hair by the roots. ;)

I have had a shave by a barber with a straight razor.  Pro guy, still wrecked my neck.  If'n you have sensitive skin at all, I say skip it.

OTOH, if you are shaving your head, it is apparently like "combing of your hair".

I'm worth it.

I just use my axe.

No but really. Quality of steel can vary quite a bit in blades. Like many things the quality difference between low cost and mid cost is huge. Then the quality difference between mid and high cost is very little. The crazy expensive ones might be a Damascus-steel or something really hand made like that. You can spend that on kitchen knives as well.

This is high carbon, and low carbon pounded together to create a low-tech alloy that gives you both hardness and ductility for maximum sharpness and longevity. This is like samurai sword technology.

Nowadays they just melt all that together, throw in some car parts and call it good. That's why a Bic razor last up to 5 minutes.

Do you need that quality for a close shave...no. But it's very cool. Like having 200hp. You might not have to sharpen as often with a superior blade. Just don't ever drop it.

This has become another passion of mine. I've been using a DE safety razor with a brush for about 9 months and I'll never go back. I haven't worked up to a straight razor yet but I can give you A list of resources that will start you off in the right direction.
www.classicshaving.com  and www.leesrazors.com Are great places to shop.
www.shavemyface.com has been a great forum on the subject. Not only do those guys have a wealth of info, but you can probably buy a great razor without a lot out of pocket.

Check it out!!
