Maybe Humboldt County

The 101 is pretty mellow North of Healdsburg.

Are you referring to the Peninsula St. on/off-ramp?  bang head It's about 2" wide, made largely blind by the barriers, treated like a go-kart track by the oncoming traffic, and even has built-in speed bumps and a challenging little jog in it just before you merge with the rest of the insanity on North 101. It's a test of your true desire to ride a motorcycle. "That which does not kill me will probably require a change of pants."  laughingdp laughingdp

I'm just off the 3rd Ave exit on the east side. Because the northbound onramp merges those both from eastbound and westbound 3rd Ave before actually getting onto 101, the point where these two merge is blinded by a barricade so you can't see who's also heading for 101. And because the westbound mergers have a longer run on the onramp, they're often flying through. To make matters worse all of the lanes of 101's been moved over to the right making all the merging in a shorter space, and you can't even tell when you are actually on the 101 too. Add to that the rutty surface of the emergency lane that serves as the far right lane! bang head All thanks to Caltrans.  Angry

Yes Cal Trans has been spending all the money up here in the North countys as of late. We got not 1 but 2 new bridges, a complete repaving of Hwy 1 through town. A new Cal trans maintenance yard / facility ( you should see this thing its pretty nice) a major road widening project on Hwy 20 just out side of town, and plans for a new round about rather than a stop light at a busy uncontrolled intersection south of town. That is in addition to all kinds of other projects I see around the county.

But It's about time, because for years it seemed like all our tax money went to projects out of the area.

Evidently the maintenance facility is there because Cal trans has further plans.

First time I took BART to SFO with my bicycle I accidentally started to get on the 101 on-ramp.  Now that would have been some interesting lane-splitting. Shocked

Why not just ride in the middle of the lane like you owned the joint.  laughingdp

I've been in Detroit for the last week and I'm surprised at how aggressive the drivers are out here.  California drivers are clueless; Detroit drivers are dicks.
